Entre sus actividades destaca la difícil etapa en la que dirigió el diario Madrid, un lugar de convergencia de reporteros, escritores, políticos y profesores de significación democrática, donde logró una heroica defensa de la libertad de expresión bajo la dictadura franquista que terminó con el cierre del diario en noviembre de 1971.
