Ha pasado ya más de medio siglo del fallecimiento de Alfonso Reyes y su obra poética no envejece. Es de justicia histórica propiciar un acercamiento a su obra poética, a fin de que las nuevas generaciones, tengan la oportunidad de conocer su poesía. Con el propósito de lograr este acercamiento, se tomó la fecha inicial establecida por el propio Reyes como inicio de su poesía, por ser el año en que aparece públicamente impresa por primera vez; y la segunda corresponde a la fecha en que regresó a México, después de once años de ausencia (1905 a 1924). La poesía, siempre que es auténtica, logra despertar en el lector la posibilidad de abrir caminos para la mejor comprensión de la vida, pues en el fondo toda expresión poética lleva consigo la posibilidad de revelar, mediante procesos cuyo derrotero no siempre es posible conocer del todo, algunas verdades profundas referentes al significado de la existencia. La poesía del Alfonso Reyes posee esa virtud.
