Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Pedagogy - Pedagogic Psychology, grade: 3.50, University of Ilorin, course: Educational Guidance and Counselling, language: English, abstract: This study investigated the prevalence and causes of drug abuse relapse as expressed by clients in NDLEA rehabilitation centers in North Central, Nigeria. The study also examined the influence of demographic variables of parental occupational status, educational attainment, marital status and age on respondents' views. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Censors sampling method, that is, only the available clients or respondents at all rehabilitation centers in the North central region was used. A researcher-designed questionnaire on "Prevalence and Causes of Drug Abuse Relapse" was used to collect relevant data. The instrument had reliability co-efficient of 0.69 using test re-test method. Out of 175 questionnaire forms administered, 169 were retrieved and 159 were valid for data analysis. All the hypotheses were tested using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics at 0.05 level of significance. Among other findings, the main findings of the study revealed that drug abuse relapse is moderately prevalent among clients in NDLEA rehabilitation centers in North Central, Nigeria and the main causes are easy availability of drugs, drug abuse environment, frequent passing through drug using site such as bar parlor and smoking joint, and being in companying of drug users. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that counsellors should equip the relatives and families of clients with some social skills training such as human relation skills that they can employ in persuading their wards who have received treatment to avoid returning to the company of friends or environment that can still expose them again to the abuse of drugs.

With the recent increase in the scope of drug and alcohol problems has come an awareness of the need for solutions. In this context, federal support for research on drug problems increased tremendously during the last 10 to 15 years with the establishment of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Funding from these and other sources has led to a substantial increase in the quantity and quality ofpublished work related to substance abuse. As data accumulate, it is becoming more apparent that substance abuse problems are extremely complex and are influenced by a variety ofbiological psychological, and environmental variables. Un fortunately it has proved difficult to go beyond this conclusion to a de scription of how these multiple factors work tagether to influence the development of, and recovery from, drug and alcohol dependence. The purpose of this book is to try to meet that objective by including, in one volume, Iiterature reviews and theoretical analyses from a wide variety of drug researchers. We chose the authors in an attempt to assure that each of the various Ievels of analysis appropriate to the substance abuse problems would be included. Insecurity in the Niger Delta: Emerging Threats in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers States is a European Union- funded in-depth study of the issue of insecurity in the Niger Delta, the oil producing region of Nigeria. Security in the region is usually assessed from the context of the absence of threats to the oil industry. This study goes beyond that limited view, using case studies drawn from the six states in the South-South geopolitical zone to show emerging security threats in the region and the complex network of factors behind them. The chapters address issues of insecurity such as youth gangs/cults, sea piracy and sea robbery, election violence, communal conflicts, land disputes, chieftaincy tussles, armed robbery, human trafficking, internal population displacement (IDPs), reintegration of ex-militants, youth unemployment, internet fraud, police brutality, environmental pollution, farmer-herder crises and influx of non-indigenes. The authors critically discuss the different strategies adopted by state governments and communities in the region to address insecurity and explain why these approaches have so far failed to resolve the problem in the region. Controlled medicines play an important role in several areas of medicine, including pain treatment, treatment of opioid dependence, emergency obstetrics, psychiatry and neurology. The availability, accessibility and affordability of controlled medicines are important issues for all countries, but problematic for most of them. The World Health Organization (WHO) promotes governments, civil society and other interested individuals to strive for the maximum public health outcome of policies related to these medicines. WHO considers the public health outcome to be at its maximum (or "balanced") when the optimum is reached between maximizing access for rational medical use and minimizing substance abuse. Policy-makers, academia, civil society and other individuals whose area of work or interest is drug control or public health may potentially work with these guidelines in order to ensure that better use is made of controlled medicines and that more patients benefit from the advantages that their rational use can offer.
