Cervical Cancer is one of the leading cancers among women, especially in developing countries. Prevention and control are the most important public health strategies. Empowerment of women, education, "earlier" screening by affordable technologies like visual inspection, and treatment of precancers by cryotherapy/ LEEP are the most promising interventions to reduce the burden of cervical cancer.Dr Rajamanickam Rajkumar had the privilege of establishing a rural population based cancer registry in South India in 1996, as well as planning and implementing a large scale screening program for cervical cancer in 2000. The program was able to show a reduction in the incidence rate of cervical cancer by 25%, and reduction in mortality rate by 35%. This was the greatest inspiration for him to work on cerrvical cancer prevention, and he edited this book to inspire others to initiate such programs in developing countries. InTech - Open Access Publisher plays a major role in this crusade against cancer, and the authors have contributed to it very well.

Most women who die from cervical cancer, particularly in developing countries, are in the prime of their life. They may be raising children, caring for their family, and contributing to the social and economic life of their town or village. Their death is both a personal tragedy, and a sad and unnecessary loss to their family and their community. Unnecessary, because there is compelling evidence, as this Guide makes clear, that cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable forms of cancer, as long as it is detected early and managed effectively. Unfortunately, the majority of women in developing countries still do not have access to cervical cancer prevention programmes. The consequence is that, often, cervical cancer is not detected until it is too late to be cured. An urgent effort is required if this situation is to be corrected. This Guide is intended to help those responsible for providing services aimed at reducing the burden posed by cervical cancer for women, communities and health systems. It focuses on the knowledge and skills needed by health care providers, at different levels of care.

Cervical Cancer From Etiology To Prevention written by Thomas E. Rohan and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-11 with Medical categories.

The last few years have seen enormous progress in terms of our understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of cervical cancer (particularly with respect to the role of human papillomaviruses), and this has opened up new avenues for prevention. Additionally, there have been further refinements of existing technologies for cervical cancer control. To read about the state of the art on cervical cancer, health professionals have to locate individual articles and reviews of specific topics. In recognition of this, we propose to produce a book that will bring together in one place reviews of the contribution of descriptive and analytical epidemiological research to our understanding of cervical cancer etiology, as well as research on the application of that knowledge (plus knowledge gained from basic science investigations) to prevention through screening, chemoprevention, and vaccine development. The proposed book will include authoritative reviews by scientists working on the disciplines that are pertinent to the topic of the epidemiology and prevention of cervical cancer.

This book entitled Cervical Cancer - Screening, Treatment and Prevention Universal Protocols for Ultimate Control is the fourth successful endeavor of the Editor with InTech publisher. The four books serve as four pillars in cervical cancer control, globally. This book is unique and sensational. Public health "topics" are assuming a status of "phenomenon," through deliberations and research. Screening is riddled with global limitations of availability, affordability, acceptability, and accessibility. The treatment of precancers has questionable efficiency. Prevention is costly with the inclusion of HPV vaccine. This book helps to find the solutions. The authors, editor, and InTech publisher wish the readers a pleasant and purposeful reading. This book is a "readers' feast," "receivers' choice," and "respondents' delight." Enjoy and treasure the international facts and flavors.

Cervical cancer is the second most common form of cancer found in women, and it is responsible for more than a quarter of a million deaths worldwide each year. With approximately 70% of cervical cancers now known to be caused by two types of the human pailloma virus (HPV), there is great interest surrounding the approval of the first preventative vaccines for clinical use. Despite this excitement, many questions remain about how the new vaccines should best be implemented and how cervical cnancer screening will change following vaccination. Part of the Oxford Oncology Library series, this practical handbook provides an overview of the role of HPV in the pathology of cervical cancer and its current screening and management, the principles of immune control of HPV infection in cervical cancer, and the challenges of implementing HPV vaccines and future developments.
