Del paganismo a la santidad (1532-1750) rescata del olvido la larga lucha de los indígenaspara ser reconocidos como cristianos y permite superar la idea de que resistieron a ladominación aferrándose a la inmovilidad. Como una invitación urgente a cuestionar esos esencialismos y a repensar los orígenes delas identidades en el Perú de hoy, he aquí algunas de las múltiples propuestas y ejemplos desafiantes que este libro le ofrece al lector: la influencia de los catecismos sobre el Taki onqoy y el mito de Inkarrí predicado en quechua por un extirpador de idolatrías, un dios antiguo que se encarna en figuras de corte renacentista y la destrucción de imágenes cristianas por visitadores eclesiásticos, Cristo coronado con la mascapaycha por los jesuítas y una mulata que libra al inca del infierno bautizándolo, la creación colonial de las categorías cosmológicas andinas y españoles ofreciendo sacrificios a las huacas, la voluntad indígena por reproducir la liturgia católica y la frustrada canonización de un santo indio.
