O acelerado processo de urbanização, apesar de muitos benefícios para a sociedade, tem permitido que os interesses econômicos na maioria das cidades brasileiras e a falta de considerações ambientais nas decisões morfológicas urbanas venham a criar problemas diversos, dentre os quais está o desconforto térmico dos espaços urbanos. Principalmente nas últimas décadas, temos observado que as cidades brasileiras, em geral, têm se formado e crescido de um modo que tem pouco a ver com o seu contexto climático. Marta preocupa-se com isso e desenvolve os princípios bioclimáticos do planejamento urbano, visando mostrar de que maneira devem ser definidas as morfologias urbano-regionais para atender às exigências de conforto térmico e bem-estar das pessoas, para diferentes condições de clima. Nesse sentido a sua dissertação de mestrado, agora convertida em livro. é uma grande contribuição na área. When established four years ago, the scope of this international series in electron microscopy essentially was to provide an opportunity for the pUblication of selected review contributions by specialists in ultrastructural research. Previous volumes presented over the last three years have focused on special topics of present interest in ~'ontemporary biomedicine such as endocrine cells, reproduction, and connective tissues.
