This book provides a comprehensive overview of acute and chronic critical limb ischemia (CLI). Loss of an extremity, or a portion thereof, is not necessarily a life-ending process, but it is a debilitating experience whether involvement is of the upper or lower extremity. It reviews the epidemiology, pathophysiology, etiology, physical examination, imaging modalities, diagnosis, and treatment of limb ischemia. It investigates the most frequent as well as the more unusual etiological processes that may lead to the most dreaded concern of patients and families: amputation. The therapeutics of CLI has been significantly advanced through the multidisciplinary approach to the patient and disease, a focus that is explored in detail throughout the book. Surgical and endovascular treatment guidelines as well as medical therapy, wound healing, and long-term care are discussed. Featuring an extensive illustration program, Critical Limb Ischemia: Acute and Chronic, is a valuable resource for vascular and endovascular surgeons, vascular medicine specialists, interventional radiologists, and cardiologists.

When established four years ago, the scope of this international series in electron microscopy essentially was to provide an opportunity for the pUblication of selected review contributions by specialists in ultrastructural research. Previous volumes presented over the last three years have focused on special topics of present interest in ~'ontemporary biomedicine such as endocrine cells, reproduction, and connective tissues. In these fielCls, in fact, integrated methods of electron microscopy have contributed much to generate new ideas and concepts of general value in both basic and clinical applications. The Ultrastructure of the Digestive Tract basically follows the same guidelines and style of the other books in the series and is an invited collection of selected contributions of authors from various laboratories active in the field of electron microscopy. Therefore, although the various chapters consist of individual topics, they nevertheless should be considered as interrelated contributions of specific subjects in the field. The idea was to have critical reviews of aspects previously published elsewhere by experts in the field who, as a rule, include other relevant information in their articles in order to update and enrich the subject. This book contains fifteen chapters by renowned electron microscopists. Each chapter, according to the policy of the editors, reviews a particular topic in great detail, providing updated information, study methods and results, authors' ideas on future investigative approaches, and possible guidelines for forthcoming work. We hope that this book will be useful to cell biologists, morphologists, physiologists, and pathologists.

Excerpt from Particle Size Characterization This guide has been written to address some of these issues and concerns in this regard. The guide is by no means an exhaustive and comprehensive text on particle size analysis, but attempts to convey the practical issues that need to be considered when attempting analysis by some of the more commonly used techniques in the ceramics manufacturing community. The document is written to guide persons who are not experts in the field, but have some fundamental knowledge and familiarity of the issues involved. References to pertinent international standards and other comprehensive sources of information have been included. Data and information from studies conducted at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and experience gained over years of participation in international round robin tests and standards development, have been used in developing the information presented in this text. Drawing on the findings of sector-specific workshops, e-mail surveys, research literature, expert testimony, and committee and panel members' expertise, this National Academy of Engineering study assesses the qualitative impact of academic research on five industriesâ€"network systems and communications; medical devices and equipment; aerospace; transportation, distribution, and logistics services; and financial services. The book documents the range and significance of academic research contributions to the five industriesâ€"comparing the importance of different types of contributions, the multi- and interdisciplinary nature of these contributions, and the multiple vectors by which academic research is linked to each industry. The book calls for action to address six cross-cutting challenges to university-industry interactions: the growing disciplinary and time-horizon-related imbalances in federal R&D funding, barriers to university-industry interaction in service industries, the critical role of academic research in the advancement of information technology, the role of academic research in the regulation of industry, the impact of technology transfer activities on core university research and education missions, and the search for new pathways and mechanisms to enhance the contributions of academic research to industry. The book also includes findings and recommendations specific to each industry.

Political Rhetoric written by Mary E. Stuckey and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-12 with Political Science categories.

Rhetoric is among the most important and least understood elements of presidential leadership. Presidents have always wielded rhetoric as one tool of governance—and that rhetoric was always intended to facilitate political ends, such as image building, persuasion of the mass public, and inter-branch government persuasion. But as mass media has grown and then fragmented, as the federal bureaucracy has continued to both expand and calcify, and as partisanship has heightened tensions both within Congress and between Congress and the Executive, rhetoric is an increasingly important element of presidential governance. Scholars have derived ways to explain how these developments and the presidents' use of rhetoric have contributed to and detracted from the health of American democracy. This briefing book offers a succinct reflection on the ways in which historical developments have encouraged the use of political rhetoric. It explores strategies of "going public" to provide some leverage over the political system and the lessons one might derive from these choices. This essential analysis, written for lay readers, scholars, students, and future presidents, is the first in Transaction's innovative Presidential Briefings series. Mary E. Stuckey covers the scholarly literature with authority and offers examples of rhetoric that have lasting influence.
