En France, les Nouveaux Animaux de Compagnie ou NAC connaissent une popularité croissante. Les furets, lapins, rongeurs et oiseaux, déjà bien installés dans nos foyers, ont été rejoints par d'autres catégories de NAC, plus exotiques et insolites comme les oiseaux tropicaux (Aras, Cacatoès), les amphibiens (Dendrobates), les arachnides (araignées, mygales et scorpions) et les reptiles (serpents venimeux ou non venimeux, lézards et tortues). Pour certaines espèces, leur détention requiert une autorisation délivrée par la Direction départementale des services vétérinaires. Pour d'autres, leur élevage nécessite l'obtention par la préfecture départementale, d'un certificat de capacité et d'une autorisation d'ouverture d'établissement d'élevage non professionnel. Cette étude recense les différentes zoonoses parasitaires comme les ectoparasites (gale animale, pulicose), les parasitoses intestinales (cryptosporidiose, giardiose) ou cutanées (dermatophytoses), entre autre, susceptibles d'être transmises par chaque classe d'animaux telle que les rongeurs et lagomorphes, les mammifères carnivores, les primates non humains, les oiseaux, les reptiles et amphibiens, les arachnides et animaux marins ainsi que les risques liés à une potentielle envenimation suite à un contact, une morsure ou une piqure.
