Nel 1725 vengono pubblicati i "Principi di una Scienza Nuova", pi� conosciuta con il titolo abbreviato di "Scienza Nuova". Alla "Scienza Nuova" Vico lavor� per tutto il corso della sua vita, con un'edizione rivista completamente, per la terza edizione del 1744. In ristrettezze economiche, per pubblicare la "Scienza Nuova", dovette toglierne alcune parti in modo che risultasse meno costoso per la stampa.Dopo la fama ottenuta dalla pubblicazione della "Scienza Nuova", ottenne dal re Carlo III di Borbone, la carica di storiografo regio. Ma tanto nuova era la sua dottrina che la cultura del tempo non pot� apprezzarla: cos� che Vico rimase appartato e quasi del tutto sconosciuto negli ambienti intellettuali, dovendosi accontentare di una cattedra di secondaria importanza all'Universit� napoletana che lo manteneva.Giambattista Vico (1668 - 1744) � stato un filosofo, storico e giurista.Finch� il Vico fu in vita, il valore della sua opera fu misconosciuto e si inizi� ad apprezzarlo maggiormente soltanto fra l'Ottocento e il Novecento. Affermatasi la fama del pensiero vichiano, esso fu conteso dalle pi� disparate correnti filosofiche: dal pensiero cristiano (nonostante l'iniziale rifiuto), dagli idealisti fu proclamato precursore dell'immanentismo hegeliano, dai positivisti e dai marxisti.
