Los autores presentan una obra innovadora dentro del área de la fisioterapia que tiene como objetivo principal la recopilación de forma detallada de información actualizada y basada en la evidencia que avale o desaconseje la aplicación de intervenciones habituales desde la terapia física en el tratamiento de las afecciones y las secuelas derivadas de los procedimientos quirúrgicos y oncológicos de la región de la cabeza y cuello. La obra estaría dirigida a fisioterapeutas, kinesiólogos, terapeutas físicos y otros profesionales del ámbito de la salud que estuvieran potencialmente interesados en la terapia manual de los procesos quirúrgicos y oncológicos de cabeza y cuello. Igualmente, el objetivo es que la idea despierte el interés de los cirujanos maxilofaciales, oncólogos y odontólogos en el sentido de que puedan conocer las posibilidades que ofrece la fisioterapia de cara a mejorar la funcionalidad y la calidad de vida de pacientes que se han sometido a este tipo de procedimientos. El enfoque mixto de la obra hace que tenga también un interés muy elevado para los estudiantes del grado de Fisioterapia. Dentro del ámbito de la fisioterapia la formación en esta temática es muy escasa y normalmente se produce en los últimos cursos. Generalmente se trata de contenidos que se cubren con asignaturas especializadas, de carácter optativo y con una carga lectiva que va de los 3 a los 6 créditos ECTS.
