While many transportation and city planners, researchers, students, practitioners, and political leaders are familiar with the technical nature and promise of vehicle automation, consensus is not yet often seen on the impact that will result, or the policies and actions that those responsible for transportation systems should take. The End of Driving: Transportation Systems and Public Policy Planning for Autonomous Vehicles explores both the potential of vehicle automation technology and the barriers it faces when considering coherent urban deployment. The book evaluates the case for deliberate development of automated public transportation and mobility-as-a-service as paths towards sustainable mobility, describing critical approaches to the planning and management of vehicle automation technology. It serves as a reference for understanding the full life cycle of the multi-year transportation systems planning processes, including novel regulation, planning, and acquisition tools for regional transportation. Application-oriented, research-based, and solution-oriented rather than predict-and-warn, The End of Driving concludes with a detailed discussion of the systems design needed for accomplishing this shift. From the Foreword by Susan Shaheen: The authors ... extend potential solutions through a set of open-ended exercises after each chapter. Their approach is both strategic and deliberate. They lead the reader from definitions and context setting to the transition toward automation, employing a range of creative strategies and policies. While our quest to understand how to deploy automated vehicles is just beginning, this book provides a thoughtful introduction to inform this evolution. Offers a workable public transit solution design melding the traditional “acquire-and-operate mode with the absorption of new technology Provides a step-by-step discussion of digital systems designs and effective regulation-by-data approaches needed for a new urban mobility Learning aids include case study scenarios, chapter objectives and discussion questions, sidebars and a glossary

It is widely recognised that there are many people for whom public transport is essential, particularly amongst the elderly, children and teenagers. Less obvious is the dependence of our cities for their existence on high capacity public transport. Although there is still a prevalent view that local public transport is only for those who do not have a car, we are slowly beginning to realise that we need to find ways of restricting use of the private car more severely and that will involve some transfer to public transport. There is a widening gap between what we expect of public transport and what can be delivered. Our expectations for travel are increasing, both in quantity and in the standards of speed, reliability and comfort. Out-of-town shopping, leisure parks and business parks all involve more travel than did their predecessors. Cars are becoming more like mobile sitting rooms with all the home comforts such as CD player and telephone. To give all this up for a bus or train is asking a lot. Urban Public Transport Today gives an honest appraisal of the pros and cons of new public transport technologies. It shows how public transport can be made a less unacceptable alternative to the private car than it is now. Public transport needs to be co-ordinated and planned together with land uses under the Town and Country Planning legislation; too often public transport solutions overlook the significance of town planning policies generating demand for travel. The author draws on a thorough study of many continental European countries and includes the latest Euro-legislation and recent case histories to give a comprehensive coverage of everything from policy problems (including land use decisions) to practical considerations (including road building). Urban Public Transport Today will be invaluable for all those involved in the land use/local transport conundrum, including planning officers, policy makers and transport consultants as well as students in transport studies, town planning and geography. Barry Simpson acts as an advisor to a number of public authorities and private firms in the field of public transport including the Department of Transport. He has served for 15 years as an examiner to the Royal Town Planning Institute and teaches transport studies at Aston University.

Introduction We are experiencing technological development stages, human began to consider air pollution how brings our natural environment to cause worse. Our cars fuel emission can also pollute our air when we are often driving ourselves cars to go to anywhere for leisure or working aim. Instead of ourselves cars emission air pollution, public transport tools, such as buses, taxis, ferries, their fuel emission also influence our air to be polluted. Because passenger individual comfort need began raises. So, electric auto non-manual driving cars, battery charge energy cars are began to consider how to invent in order to reduce air pollution and raise driver individual comfortable need, instead of improving driving speed to be rapid, car inventors also hope to avoid air pollution to pollute our natural environment. When global fuel cars number continues increases. In my this book, I shall indicate how our future transportation tool may be invented in order to improve our qualify of lives or standard of lives to be better. How to improve our future transport tools in order to avoid air pollution more serious? It is my this book discussion about how transport invention or improvement, it will influence public transport passenger service and comfortable need aim. I shall attempt to research how transport improvement question in order to let readers feel how it can influence future public transport tools passenger individual choosing any kinds of pubic transport tools need as well as how is our future actual transport improvement achievement aim in order to keep our standard of lives ( quality of lives ) can be improved to achieve the best service standard and avoid any kinds of future public transport tools passengers number reduces. Because any public transport needs to be improved in order to satisfy passengers comfortable needs. IN passenger comfortable need psychology view, how to improve public transport service quality. It is my main discussion in this book topic, it concerns bus, ferry and rail public transport passenger psychology. I shall explain whether future non manual driven cars can persuade drivers to buy cars to drive as well as how any why it may bring road passengers number increases. How man made clever automobile may well engage clever transportation tools ? Can man made intelligence (AI) and laptop studying (ML) be utilized in the quest for brand spanking new " intake" behavioral kind variables that have an effect on purchaser person or transportation carrier association person diverse transportation instruments offerings, corresponding to street or sea or sky transportation instruments? Can man made clever car might engage clever transportation instruments industry development? This road transport part brings readers to image what will be different if artificial intelligent non manual driving vehicle will be used to public transportation and private transportation both aspects in popular. Will it popular to accept to use any artificial intelligent vehicles? Is it possible to apply AI non-manual driving technology to AI non-manual driving transportation tools global transportation market? For example, in (AI) non-manual vehicle industry, driving automatic vehicle whether it will be accepted to drivers who have confidence to drive it on roads safely. Whether artificial (AI) intelligent non-manual driving systems are the improvement of traffic safety, reduction of energy consumption or improvement of the comfort of the driver. Whether will it be popular to accept to apply artificial intelligent non-manual driving technology from non-manual auto driving cars to be applied to any non-manual auto driving transportation tools transportation market development, such as train, tram, lorry, transportation air plane, passenger air plane, ferry, taxi, MTR. Etc. different kinds of transportation tools? If future human accepts to use any non-manual driving vehicles or non-manual driving transportation .

Currently the automotive industry faces severe problems. To attract buyers in a highly competitive market, price reductions as an incentive have reached unreal levels. To maximize profits, the trend is to use platform strategies whenever possible. Also, the architecture and structure of cars is living a revival of the ladder frame with huge sales of SUV's. One explanation for that is the higher profit of car companies with the sale of ladder frame SUV's compared to space frames. The other reason is that people buy them like they are for free. The public is manipulated with psychological issues like "my car is big so I am safe". The truth is the opposite as recent studies show. Design is used to decorate the interior and exterior. Restyling the appearance, rather than redesign the vehicle, consumes an enormous amount of resources. Furthermore global political conditions and the rise of the cost for crude oil turns increases the awareness and demand for fuel efficiency and alternative energy resources Public transportation systems face numerous problems as well. Lacking support of the government, city planners can't replace old technology. A vicious circle results: the quality of the public transportation declines, public use decreases leading to less revenue. Other issues are infrequent scheduling, lack of goods transportation and insecurity at night. High installation costs are recouped after long periods and the customer needs good reasons to change from the convenience of a car to a mass transit system. Examples like the car sharing in San Francisco or the renting of carts on golf courses show that there are alternatives to owning vehicles. There are certain situations where it is sensible to use a flexible vehicle that one rents for minutes, hours or days. It is necessary to configure and restrict an area for such a system to work. Absolute criteria are to minimize weight and maximize safety. The use for a wide range of people should be considered, common issues like obesity or disability will be addressed. This thesis will explore possibilities of the use of new structures in transportation design. What can we learn out of a comparison of structures to implement into modern transportation design? What happens if one considers the interior more important than the exterior? What are the future needs and desires of the stakeholders in our world of transportation? These are some questions I will address. This multidisciplinary research will result in a vehicle which will be determined by my research, based on the user's needs. I will interview experts in those fields who can explain the current level of technology. Scrutinizing current trends and finding alternatives by viewing the whole extent and the structure within the structure will be part of this thesis.
