Oil Spill Science and Technology, Second Edition, delivers a multi-contributed view on the entire chain of oil-spill related topics from oil properties and behaviors, to remote sensing through the management side of contingency planning and communicating oil spill risk perceptions. Completely new case studies are included with special attention to the Deepwater Horizon event, covering the impacts of wetlands and sand beaches, a mass balance approach, and the process for removing petroleum chemicals still trapped near Alabama beaches. Other new information on lingering oil left behind from the Exxon Valdez spill, the emergency system used in the Prestige incident, and coverage on the Heibei Spirit spill in Korea are also included. This updated edition combines technology with case studies to identify the current state of knowledge surrounding oil spills that will encourage additional areas of research that are left to uncover in this critical sector of the oil and gas industry. - Updated with new chapters on risk analysis and communication, contingency planning, restoration, and case studies - Supported with technological advances evolved from the Deepwater Horizon/BP oil tragedy and events in the Arctic/Antarctic - Multi-contributed from various industry experts to provide an extensive background in technical equipment and worldwide procedures used today

Advances In Environmental Remote Sensing written by F. Mark Danson and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-05-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Significant advances have been made in mapping and monitoring our environment from Earth Observation satellites, but now, in the 1990s, remote sensing has reached a new technological and scientific frontier. Advances in Environmental Remote Sensing not only describes recent technological advances but also emphasises the parallel progress that has been made in interpreting and applying data to solve environmental problems. A team of scientists working at the research edge examine applications using examples from their own current work, and identify key paths for the development of remote sensing into the next century. This is an essential book for students of geography, environmental science, ecology, forestry and geology, as well as an important reference tool for anyone interested in applications of remote sensing.

These Proceedings, consisting of Parts A and B, contain the edited versions of most of the papers presented at the annual Review of Progress in Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation held at the University of California San Diego, in La Jolla, California on July 19- July 24, 1992. The Review was organized by the Center for NDE at Iowa State University and the Ames Laboratory of the USDOE in cooperation with a number of organizations including the Air Force Wright Laboratory Materials Directorate, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, the Center for NDE at Johns Hopkins University, the Department of Energy, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the National Science Foundation IndustrylUniversity Cooperative Research Centers, and the Working Group in Quantitative NDE. This year's Review of Progress in QNDE was attended by approximately 475 participants from the U. S. and many foreign countries who presented over 380 papers. With such a large volume of work to review, the meeting was divided into 36 sessions with as many as four sessions running concurrently. The Review covered all phases of NDE research and development from fundamental investigations to engineering applications or inspection systems, and it included all methods of inspection science from acoustics to x-rays. During the last twenty years, the participants of the Review have contributed to its steady growth. Thanks to their efforts, the Review is today one of the largest and most significant gatherings of NDE researchers and engineers anywhere in the world.

Earth System Monitoring written by John Orcutt and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-12 with Science categories.
Modern Earth System Monitoring represents a fundamental change in the way scientists study the Earth System. In Oceanography, for the past two centuries, ships have provided the platforms for observing. Expeditions on the continents and Earth’s poles are land-based analogues. Fundamental understanding of current systems, climate, natural hazards, and ecosystems has been greatly advanced. While these approaches have been remarkably successful, the need to establish measurements over time can only be made using Earth observations and observatories with exacting standards and continuous data. The 19 peer-reviewed contributions in this volume provide early insights into this emerging view of Earth in both space and time in which change is a critical component of our growing understanding.
