Co-researchers understood their experiences in terms of their negative prior experiences, resistance to the Process-Experiential method, and difficulties related to understanding Process-Experiential Therapy. The implications of the findings for counselling theory and practice, and for the training of therapists in Process-Experiential Therapy were discussed. The researcher concluded that factors other than operational skills can hinder successful implementation of process-directive techniques. The researcher also concluded that in a therapeutic system which emphasises the phenomenology of the client, the need for counselling educators to understand trainee therapists' sense of discomfort is important in terms of assisting trainees to develop their skills in the Process-Experiential approach.
