Following A. N. Whitehead, this book takes up the principal challenge facing a natural philosopher who wishes to engage with Nature while rescuing both Life and Thought from materialistic approaches which rob them of their 'quicknesses'. Selecting certain insights and intuitions from the writings of Peirce, Coleridge, Deleuze and Nietzsche, the author proffers a remedy for the pervasive nihilism of 'the moderns' which illustrates Deleuze's suggestion that philosophy should be imaged as a dynamic collage that is forever in the making.

"This qualitative study explored how experienced white social workers define and practice cultural competence in their clinical practice. Cultural competence is a process by which social workers respond respectfully and effectively to clients from diverse backgrounds and address some of the harmful effects of the oppression of marginalized groups. ...The findings are organized into four categories: professional, personal, process, and power. The "professional" findings describe the strengths and shortcomings of graduate school in preparing social workers to work across difference. The "personal" findings describe participants' motivation to practice cultural competence, their view of cultural competence as a relational stance, their belief in starting with self-awareness, and the impact of some of their social locations. The "process" findings explore the evolving definition of cultural competence and the development of participants' abilities over time and with experience. The "power" findings discuss the agency and the societal contexts in which social workers practice, the presence of power and cultural differences, and the immense impact of white privilege on their work."

Renewable energies such as solar, hydro or wind power are abundant in principle but subject to strong fluctuations. Therefore, development of new technologies for storage of these renewable energies is of special interest. Electrochemical technologies are ideal candidates for the use of excess current; consequently, an increased electrification of chemical processes is expected. In this respect, there are different pathways to utilize excess current electrochemically. Perhaps the most accepted and discussed solutions involve intermediate energy storage in either chemical energy carriers (such as hydrogen via water electrolysis) or electrochemical energy storage devices (like batteries). Additionally, excess current can put to other uses, such for solutions to environmental issues or for construction purposes, rather than being stored for later use.

Myanmar S Peace Process And The Role Of Middle Power States written by Chiraag Roy and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-06 with Social Science categories.

This book explores middle power engagement in peace processes through the cases of Australian, Japanese and Norwegian engagement in Myanmar’s peace process, a core event in Myanmar’s contemporary recent political history. The book asks to what extent, and how, middle powers have engaged in Myanmar’s peace process as a form of peacemaking entrepreneurship. Underpinning this study is a concern for the lack of clarity surrounding the middle power concept. Traditional conceptions of middle powers, steeped in idealist thinking, locate such states as capable peacemakers, without elucidating the motivations that drive middle powers to peacemaking beyond mere status seeking. Drawing on recent fieldwork interviews from within Myanmar as well as political economy literature, the author scrutinises this notion while concomitantly offering an incisive analysis of Myanmar’s peace process. Based on the Myanmar context, the book argues that middle powers can better be conceptualised as "peace-making entrepreneurs," as actors that use peacemaking as an instrumental tool to cement their status and craft an image, which they can then trade upon to secure additional, namely, commercial, benefits. Significantly, this notion of peacemaking entrepreneurship problematises core theoretical assumptions of middle powers as capable peacemakers, presenting implications for future scholarship on middle powers. A timely addition as Myanmar continues to grapple with its own future, the book is located within the fields of International Relations and Development Studies. It will be of interest to researchers studying Asian Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, and Myanmar Politics.

Global Rupture makes a key intervention in debates on informal and precarious labour. Increasing recognition that informal and precarious labour is an enduring reality under neo-liberal capitalism, and the norm globally, rather than the exception has ignited debates around analytical frames, activist strategies and development interventions. This pathbreaking volume provides a corrective through drawing upon theoretically informed rich case studies from the world outside of North America, Europe, and Australasia. Each contribution converges on the enduring and expanding significance of informal and precarious work within the Global South—the most significant factor in preventing a worldwide decent work agenda. *Global Rupture: Neoliberal Capitalism and the Rise of Informal Labour in the Global South is now available in paperback for individual customers.
