En el presente trabajo se realiza un estudio preliminar para la optimización de la producción en la Planta Piloto de Biodiesel (PPBD) del Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM). La materia prima procesada es aceite vegetal usado, reciclado de las cafeterías del Campus Monterrey. En base a los trabajos de investigación previos en materia de Biodiesel realizados en el ITESM se determina una programación de experimentos que tiene como finalidad obtener Biodiesel de calidad aceptable dentro de normas internacionales, específicamente respecto a la norma DIN V 51606 por ser una norma muy completa. Se describe la producción e infraestructura de la PPBD así como el proceso de arranque de la misma. En el proceso de aprendizaje para la operación de la PPBD se realizan los experimentos programados y se monitorean los parámetros requeridos como una aproximación a la determinación de variables críticas que pueden servir de guía para el proceso de optimización de la producción de Biodiesel. Algunos de los parámetros especificados en la norma alemana son medidos en cada uno de los experimentos, lotes producidos, mediante pruebas implementadas con anterioridad por otros investigadores. Los resultados de calidad en los lotes producidos fueron favorables encontrándose dentro de la norma, por lo tanto el Biodiesel producido en la PPBD puede ser utilizado en vehículos con motor a Diesel. El problema detectado principalmente fue el tiempo de producción ya que los procesos de separación de fases son muy lentos. En general las variables se enfocaron al proceso de lavado para la purificación del producto y una reducción en el tiempo total de reacción. El análisis económico para la producción de Biodiesel se obtiene con la estimación del costo por energía, costo por insumos, costo de operación y costo de mantenimiento, entre otros gastos mínimos de material de seguridad principalmente. Encontrándose costos aceptables de producción debido en parte al costo del aceite vegetal utilizado. Tres escenarios alternativos son estudiados: a) escenario 1: actual proceso de producción, b) escenario 2: proponiendo la sustitución de centrifugado por calentamiento post-lavado, c) escenario 3: costo de aceite más elevado con recuperación de metanol y d) escenario 4: lotes del máximo volumen posible en el reactor. Lo anterior refleja en el análisis de sensibilidad económica realizado para el mejor escenario los valores críticos de venta de Biodiesel y costo de la materia prima utilizada.

The 2020 edition of The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture has a particular focus on sustainability. This reflects a number of specific considerations.
