The volume brings together the papers read at the international conference on Romance Objects organized by the Linguistics Department of the Roma Tre University. It is characterized by a striking uniformity of approach, which is functional, and of methodology. The various case studies regarding the object focus on the syntax/semantics and syntax/pragmatics interfaces. The common denominator of the ten enquiries is the identification of the object category, the DO in particular, in Romance languages; at the same time some of the contributors relate the specific topic to more general questions of linguistic typology. Some of the essays are based on the analysis of data from a corpus and present a diachronic picture of the evolution of the specific topic investigated. Foreword The modern developments in mathematical biology took place roughly between 1920 and 1940, a period now referred to as the "Golden Age of Theoretical Biology". The eminent Italian mathematician Vito Volterra played a decisive and widely acknowledged role in these developments. Volterra's interest in the application of mathematics to the non physical sciences, and to biology and economics in particular, dates back to the turn of the century and was expressed in his inaugural address at the University of Rome for the academic year 1900/01 (VOLTERRA 1901). Nevertheless, it was only in the mid-twenties that Volterra entered the field in person, at the instigation of his son in law, Umberto D'Ancona, who had confronted him with the problem of competition among animal species, asking him whether a mathematical treatment was possible. From that time on, until his death in 1940, Volterra produced a huge output of publications on the subject. Volterra's specific project was to transfer the model and the concepts of classical mechanics to biology, constructing a sort of "rational mechanics" and an "analytic mechanics" of biological associations. The new subject was thus to be equipped with a solid experimental or at least empirical basis, also in this case following the tried and tested example of mathematical physics. Although very few specific features of this reductionist programme have actually survived, Volterra's contribution was decisive, as is now universally acknowledged, in en couraging fresh studies in the field of mathematical biology.

L'occhio esperto dell'uomo chesi è occupato dei più intricati casi nazionali degli ultimi anni prende in esame i rilievi tecnico-scientifici per tracciare un'analisi equilibrata dei fatti e mostrare le incertezze di una vicenda che lascia ancora molte domande in sospeso.

ROSA PUORTO è un architetto che da sempre coltiva esperienze nel campo della pittura della scultura, e nella poesia. In questo volume “Una poesia per caso” Puorto continua il suo cammino in versi con una poesia giornaliera e della quotidianità. Infatti racconta tutto ciò che vive e la circonda, siano esse avventure che disavventure, quello che le capita e che ha modo di vedere e sentire. È un poetare per caso, espresso con un’esplosione di emozioni. Le poesie, della Puorto, parlano dell’Amore: di quell’ amore altruistico che si dona senza nulla chiedere e che mette in risalto e dà importanza alle piccole cose, ai piccoli gesti della quotidianità. Sono i gesti e le cose che riempiono “una vita”, e a cui di solito non si dà valore. Ma del vero valore loro ce ne rendiamo conto solo quando vengono a mancarci. E forse è troppo tardi! Puorto è stata selezionata, dalla Casa Editrice “Aletti Editore”, per la pubblicazione di una nuova Collana “Parole in fuga - Poeti del nuovo millennio a confronto”, un’Antologia di poesie intitolata “Maestraù”, pubblicata nell’anno 2016. Presente anche nell’Enciclopedia dei Poeti Italiani Contemporanei, della Aletti Editore Collana Orizzonti, anno 2016, è selezionata nel Maggio 2018, per una collocazione nel volume di poesie: Poeti Vari - Antologia di poesie a firma di Mogol.
