După 1918, în România s-a produs o transformare a sistemului politic, acesta devenind unul multipartidist și marcând, astfel, diversificarea viziunilor despre dezvoltarea țării. Partidele de la începutul perioadei interbelice adoptă, în programele lor, viziuni liberale, conservatoare, țărăniste, social-democrate, socialiste etc. Prima parte a cărții de față prezintă programele următoarelor formațiuni: Partidul Conservator Democrat, Partidul Conservator Progresist, Liga Poporului, Partidul Național Liberal, Partidul Țărănesc, Partidul Național Român, Partidul Național Țărănesc, Partidul Socialist și Partidul Social Democrat. Începutul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial a însemnat sfârșitul democrației interbelice, iar noile realități ale anilor 1944-1946 au oferit imaginea unui sistem politic mai fragmentat și mai fragil. A doua parte a cărții reproduce programele partidelor politice din preajma alegerilor din 1946, ultimele organizate înainte de instaurarea regimului comunist: Partidul Național Liberal (aripa Dinu Brătianu), Partidul Național Liberal (aripa Gheorghe Tătărescu), Partidul Național Țărănesc (aripa Iuliu Maniu), Partidul Național Țărănesc F.N.D., Partidul Țărănesc Democrat, Partidul Social Democrat, Partidul Comunist Român, Frontul Plugarilor, Partidul Popular Românesc, Partidul Radical al Micii Burghezii, Partidul Național Popular.
