About this Book This book is a detailed introduction to programming with the OSF /MotifI'M graphical user interface. It is an introduction in that it does not require the reader to have experience programming in the X Window environment. It is detailed in that it teaches you how to use the interface components provided by Motif in a complex application. Although it contains a great deal of reference material, it is not meant as an authoritative reference - that is the job of the OSF/Motif Programmer's Reference, which uses over 900 pages in the process. Instead, this book provides its reference material in a practical, "how to" manner and allows the reader to use the Programmer's Reference effectively. The target reader is an experienced C programmer and user of the X Window System under the UNIX operating system. 'the reader should be familiar with the tools provided by UNIX for the compilation and testing of programs; while this book does examine the process by which a Motif program is compiled, it does not explain that process. It also assumes that the reader is familiar with "x" terms such as 'pointer' and 'display'.

This book features 21 papers spanning many different sub-fields in bioinformatics and computational biology, presenting the latest research on the practical applications to promote fruitful interactions between young researchers in different areas related to the field. Next-generation sequencing technologies, together with other emerging and diverse experimental techniques, are evolving rapidly, creating numerous types of omics data. These, in turn, are creating new challenges for the expanding fields of bioinformatics and computational biology, which seek to analyse, process, integrate and extract meaningful knowledge from such data. This calls for new algorithms and approaches from fields such as databases, statistics, data mining, machine learning, optimization, computer science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Clearly, biology is increasingly becoming a science of information, requiring tools from the computational sciences. To address these challenges, we have seen the emergence of a new generation of interdisciplinary scientists with a strong background in the biological and computational sciences. In this context, the interaction of researchers from different scientific areas is, more than ever, vital to boost the research efforts in the field and contribute to the training of the new generation of interdisciplinary scientists.

Programming With Qt written by Matthias Dalheimer and has been published by "O'Reilly Media, Inc." this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Computers categories.

The popular open source KDE desktop environment for Unix was built with Qt, a C++ class library for writing GUI applications that run on Unix, Linux, Windows 95/98, Windows 2000, and Windows NT platforms. Qt emulates the look and feel of Motif, but is much easier to use. Best of all, after you have written an application with Qt, all you have to do is recompile it to have a version that works on Windows. Qt also emulates the look and feel of Windows, so your users get native-looking interfaces. Platform independence is not the only benefit. Qt is flexible and highly optimized. You'll find that you need to write very little, if any, platform-dependent code because Qt already has what you need. And Qt is free for open source and Linux development. Although programming with Qt is straightforward and feels natural once you get the hang of it, the learning curve can be steep. Qt comes with excellent reference documentation, but beginners often find the included tutorial is not enough to really get started with Qt. That's where Programming with Qt steps in. You'll learn how to program in Qt as the book guides you through the steps of writing a simple paint application. Exercises with fully worked out answers help you deepen your understanding of the topics. The book presents all of the GUI elements in Qt, along with advice about when and how to use them, so you can make full use of the toolkit. For seasoned Qt programmers, there's also lots of information on advanced 2D transformations, drag-and-drop, writing custom image file filters, networking with the new Qt Network Extension, XML processing, Unicode handling, and more. Programming with Qt helps you get the most out of this powerful, easy-to-use, cross-platform toolkit. It's been completely updated for Qt Version 3.0 and includes entirely new information on rich text, Unicode/double byte characters, internationalization, and network programming.

Shows programmers how to use C++ and OSF/Motif, a user interface toolkit based on the industry-standard X Window System, to design and implement applications featuring interactive graphical user interfaces. It addresses the surrounding issues of object-oriented design with X and Motif, covering object-oriented programming and design techniques, user interface design methods, emphasizing the thought processes behind each technique and presenting common architectures for object-oriented design. With more and more applications being written for the X Window System (and many in the C++ language), this guide is indispensable for anyone who is interested in gaining proficiency at using C++ and Motif. Practical coverage helps you put the book's techniques into immediate practice. Code examples in the book form a usable toolkit you can use again and again in your daily work. Appropriate for software engineers and programmers working in the UNIX environments.
