Las sociedades contemporáneas viven un acelerado proyecto de globalización neoliberal. En su seno coexisten contradicciones y conflictos inherentes a sus presupuestos filosóficos. Algunos de esos conflictos son tan antiguos como el origen de la modernidad, s. xvii, pero resurgen en la actualidad como heridas abiertas del sistema. Entre esos conflictos se destaca el de la propiedad y la tierra. Esta obra hace un análisis radiográfico sobre la problemática de la propiedad y la tierra en Brasil, y un recorrido histórico del Movimiento de los Trabajadores Sin Tierra (MST) como una respuesta contemporánea a un problema secular. La identidad del MST se construye en los intersticios sociales de la lucha por los derechos humanos. Los derechos humanos son el vector discursivo donde los movimientos sociales contemporáneos pueden articular la producción de verdades alternativas al modelo neoliberal. Nuevas verdades producen nuevos efectos de poder. En el caso del MST, ese poder pretende legitimar la lucha de un movimiento social que tiene como objetivo conseguir el mínimo de dignidad humana a través de la lucha por la reforma agraria. La lucha del MST muestra, una vez más, que la alteridad es el criterio ético-político que define la legitimad o la injusticia de la propiedad (de las patentes), de la tierra o de cualquier proyecto político.

This book is the product of an eponymous workshop, which took place in Erfurt in May, 2012, and which has since then been supplemented with four further contributions. The topics focus on the potential mapping of perceived urban space and spatial hierarchies as a consequence of social usage (undertaken by a variety of active participants) together with spatio-temporal changes as a result of factors such as demographic urban growth and decline.
