This book includes papers presented at the Young Researchers Symposium of the 14th International Congress on Mathematical Physics, held in July 2003, in Lisbon, Portugal. The goal of thes book is to illustrate various promising areas of mathematical physics in a way accessible to researchers at the beginning of their career. Two of the three laureates of the Henri Poincare Prizes, Huzihiro Araki and Elliott Lieb, also contributed to this volume. The book provides a good survey of some active areas of research in modern mathematical physics.

Progress And Visions In Quantum Theory In View Of Gravity written by Felix Finster and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-04-09 with Science categories.

This book focuses on a critical discussion of the status and prospects of current approaches in quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, in particular concerning gravity. It contains a carefully selected cross-section of lectures and discussions at the seventh conference “Progress and Visions in Quantum Theory in View of Gravity” which took place in fall 2018 at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig. In contrast to usual proceeding volumes, instead of reporting on the most recent technical results, contributors were asked to discuss visions and new ideas in foundational physics, in particular concerning foundations of quantum field theory. A special focus has been put on the question of which physical principles of quantum (field) theory can be considered fundamental in view of gravity. The book is mainly addressed to mathematicians and physicists who are interested in fundamental questions of mathematical physics. It allows the reader to obtain a broad and up-to-date overview of a fascinating active research area.

The Symposium on the Current State and Prospects of Mathematics was held in Barcelona from June 13 to June 18, 1991. Seven invited Fields medalists gavetalks on the development of their respective research fields. The contents of all lectures were collected in the volume, together witha transcription of a round table discussion held during the Symposium. All papers are expository. Some parts include precise technical statements of recent results, but the greater part consists of narrative text addressed to a very broad mathematical public. CONTENTS: R. This updated and extended edition of the book combines the topics provided in the two parts of the previous editions as well as new topics. It is a comprehensive compilation covering most areas in mathematical and theoretical physics. The book provides a collection of problems together with their detailed solutions which will prove to be valuable to students as well as to researchers in the fields of mathematics, physics, engineering and other sciences. Each chapter provides a short introduction with the relevant definitions and notations. All relevant definitions are given. The topics range in difficulty from elementary to advanced. Almost all problems are solved in detail and most of the problems are self-contained. Stimulating supplementary problems are also provided in each chapter. Students can learn important principles and strategies required for problem solving. Teachers will also find this text useful as a supplement, since important concepts and techniques are developed in the problems. Introductory problems for both undergraduate and advanced undergraduate students are provided. More advanced problems together with their detailed solutions are collected, to meet the needs of graduate students and researchers. Problems included cover new fields in theoretical and mathematical physics such as tensor product, Lax representation, Bäcklund transformation, soliton equations, Hilbert space theory, uncertainty relation, entanglement, spin systems, Lie groups, Bose system, Fermi systems differential forms, Lie algebra valued differential forms, metric tensor fields, Hirota technique, Painlevé test, Bethe ansatz, Yang-Baxter relation, wavelets, gauge theory, differential geometry, string theory, chaos, fractals, complexity, ergodic theory, etc. A number of software implementations are also provided.

One Hundred Years Of Gauge Theory written by Silvia De Bianchi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-11-03 with Science categories.

This book presents a multidisciplinary guide to gauge theory and gravity, with chapters by the world’s leading theoretical physicists, mathematicians, historians and philosophers of science. The contributions from theoretical physics explore e.g. the consistency of the unification of gravitation and quantum theory, the underpinnings of experimental tests of gauge theory and its role in shedding light on the relationship between mathematics and physics. In turn, historians and philosophers of science assess the impact of Weyl’s view on the philosophy of science. Graduate students, lecturers and researchers in the fields of history of science, theoretical physics and philosophy of science will benefit from this book by learning about the role played by Weyl’s Raum-Zeit-Materie in shaping several modern research fields, and by gaining insights into the future prospects of gauge theory in both theoretical and experimental physics. Furthermore, the book facilitates interdisciplinary exchange and conceptual innovation in tackling fundamental questions about our deepest theories of physics. Chapter “Weyl’s Raum-Zeit-Materie and the Philosophy of Science” is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com

The Method Of Fractional Steps written by Nikolaj N. Yanenko and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Mathematics categories.

The method of. fractional steps, known familiarly as the method oi splitting, is a remarkable technique, developed by N. N. Yanenko and his collaborators, for solving problems in theoretical mechanics numerically. It is applicable especially to potential problems, problems of elasticity and problems of fluid dynamics. Most of the applications at the present time have been to incompressible flow with free bound aries and to viscous flow at low speeds. The method offers a powerful means of solving the Navier-Stokes equations and the results produced so far cover a range of Reynolds numbers far greater than that attained in earlier methods. Further development of the method should lead to complete numerical solutions of many of the boundary layer and wake problems which at present defy satisfactory treatment. As noted by the author very few applications of the method have yet been made to problems in solid mechanics and prospects for answers both in this field and other areas such as heat transfer are encouraging. As the method is perfected it is likely to supplant traditional relaxation methods and finite element methods, especially with the increase in capability of large scale computers. The literal translation was carried out by T. Cheron with financial support of the Northrop Corporation. The editing of the translation was undertaken in collaboration with N. N. Yanenko and it is a plea sure to acknowledge his patient help and advice in this project. The edited manuscript was typed, for the most part, by Mrs.

Topics In Contemporary Mathematical Physics written by Kai S. Lam and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Science categories.

This textbook, pitched at the advanced-undergraduate to beginning-graduate level, focuses on mathematical topics of relevance in contemporary physics that are not usually covered in texts at the same level. Its main purpose is to help students appreciate and take advantage of the modern trend of very productive symbiosis between physics and mathematics. Three major areas are covered: (1) linear operators; (2) group representations and Lie algebra representations; (3) topology and differential geometry. The following are noteworthy features of this book: the style of exposition is a fusion of those common in the standard physics and mathematics literatures; the level of exposition varies from quite elementary to moderately advanced, so that the book is of interest to a wide audience; despite the diversity of the topics covered, there is a strong degree of thematic unity; much care is devoted to detailed cross-referencing so that, from any part of the book, the reader can trace easily where specific concepts or techniques are introduced.
