The primary focus of this book is on patients dealing with having prostate cancer but it can also be applied to any illness, infirmity, disability or challenge one faces. Throughout my own journey with prostate cancer, I discovered that finding the best hospitals and doctors is critical. Asking and getting answers to all your questions and fully understanding your situation, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan is essential. Then incorporating all of your feelings, fears, values and beliefs will point you in the right direction. Being an active, full participant in your action plan, will likely produce the best outcome for you. Always asking questions about the effects of each type of treatment /procedure will prepare you well. Don't be shy about including your feelings, thoughts and fears about their effects on your quality of life, relationships, sexual functioning, financial situation, insurance or lack thereof, effects on bodily functions, etc. The book covers each of these aspects of life in depth. It explores all of these areas from both a patient's and a therapist's perspective. It's written to give you a real, down to earth picture of my journey. It's important to both trust your doctors but your own instincts as well. Ask for and accept help and support from as many loved ones as possible. Consider searching for professional help either or both, individually or in a group. Staying active, positive and continuing to enjoy life fully will definitely help you through your journey. I hope my own personal journey will help you or any loved one currently going through life's challenges.

A Prostate Cancer Patient's Story Dick Grannan recently completed an unbelievable, exciting, life-threatening journey that is quickly becoming prevalent for thousands of men. He wants them to know what it will be like, and to encourage them to remain hopeful even when tempted to despair. He writes a narrative account of his personal experience with prostate cancer. The book follows a logical progression starting with the discovery of a medical problem, the long struggle to find answers, total submission to treatments, and the end result. It is written as a type of journal to ease the reading and expose the logic of events. It is open and frank and reveals what went on in his mind while he waited for long periods in over crowded hospitals, submitting to embarrassing bodily probes and countless hours in today's high-tech machines. This book is unique and appears at the right moment in history as the boomers join the ranks of the senior citizens. Books of this nature are few in number. Men must have the opportunity to be intellectually, but also emotionally prepared to accept the challenge of prostate cancer. An Unintended Journey will fill that void for the reader.

Cancer Is A Four Letter Word written by Larry Kreps and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-12 with categories.

Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in American men today, closely following lung cancer. About one man in six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. But only one in 35 will die from it. More than two million men in the United States who have been diagnosed at some point are still alive today. I am one of them. My book, Cancer is a Four-Letter Word: A Pilgrimage into the Emotional, Sexual, and Spiritual Aspects of Prostate Cancer, chronicles my own experience with this terrible disease. From early diagnosis, fear, and panic, to shopping for the best treatment, to surgery and subsequent recovery, I trace not only the physical journey of getting my stamina and good health back, but also the psychological and sexual implications. My format includes an interweaving of my own story of prostate cancer with other men's stories, along with open-ended questions at the end of each chapter to keep men and their partners talking late into the night. There's also a resource list to provide support for a lifetime. Although concise and easy to read, my book doesn't hold back any personal details. Readers will learn what to expect in regard to diapering oneself post-surgery, working through debilitating depression, and forging the uncharted territory of a different kind of sexual intimacy. More importantly, they'll hear about learning to accept support from loving friends and how to talk to God in a whole new way. Rarely does a reader find an account of experiencing God's overwhelming love and grace in the same chapter as explicit details on how to give oneself penile injections to overcome erectile dysfunction!

Navigating Through Prostate Cancer written by Richard Voegele and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-02 with categories.

Readers will find this easy-to-read Navigating Through Prostate Cancer guide to be concise, clear and informative. It was written with passion, humor and the desire to make a difficult situation easier to manage. Most importantly, the guide was written to help each reader to arrive at the best treatment decisions for themselves. This is accomplished by providing ways to enhance discussions with doctors and others so that one collects ALL the relevant information necessary for a successful outcome. The authors have translated their personal prostate cancer journey experiences into a guide applicable to all. It provides a short description of the function of the prostate and how a man's "plumbing" works for both sexual intercourse and urination. This is intended to reduce the misconceptions (and fears) that can drive less than optimal decision making. This is followed with a description of the overall process that directs everyone's journey from beginning to end. Next, are explanations of potential tests, how they would be conducted and how to interpret their results. From here, each of the treatment options are explained with the pros and cons of each. Also included are practical solutions to recovery outcomes such as incontinence. Finally, the emotional roller coaster associated with any cancer is discussed with ways to help smooth out the ride. Although the authors are not physicians, the contents of the book have been reviewed by several doctors who represent different aspects of the prostate cancer journey. Comments received during an extensive review process include: "This is SO needed," "Every man facing the potential of having prostate cancer needs to read this book," and, "This easy-to-read book covers it all."
