The Longing For Myth In Germany written by George S. Williamson and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-07 with History categories.

Since the dawn of Romanticism, artists and intellectuals in Germany have maintained an abiding interest in the gods and myths of antiquity while calling for a new mythology suitable to the modern age. In this study, George S. Williamson examines the factors that gave rise to this distinct and profound longing for myth. In doing so, he demonstrates the entanglement of aesthetic and philosophical ambitions in Germany with some of the major religious conflicts of the nineteenth century. Through readings of key intellectuals ranging from Herder and Schelling to Wagner and Nietzsche, Williamson highlights three crucial factors in the emergence of the German engagement with myth: the tradition of Philhellenist neohumanism, a critique of contemporary aesthetic and public life as dominated by private interests, and a rejection of the Bible by many Protestant scholars as the product of a foreign, "Oriental" culture. According to Williamson, the discourse on myth in Germany remained bound up with problems of Protestant theology and confessional conflict through the nineteenth century and beyond. A compelling adventure in intellectual history, this study uncovers the foundations of Germany's fascination with myth and its enduring cultural legacy.

[Christian Anti-Semitism in the German Kaiserreich. Adolf Stoecker as reflected through his contemporary critics] Adolf Stoecker (1835–1909) was a protestant court-priest and Christian-social politician. In his time he was known for his reformist political views based on Christian-conservativism as well as his anti-semitic agitation. His involvement in the debates around the so-called »Jewish Question« in the German Kaiserreich was marked by a decidedly Christian form of Anti-Semitism. His anti-Jewish statements were rebutted by people from diverse political, ecclesiastical and societal backgrounds including Jews and non-Jews. Between 1879 and 1900 the debates around the »Jewish Question« occured in three phases: an initial phase, a phase of politization, and a phase in which it became institutional. During these phases, particular conflicts exhibit various constellations of actors and topics, as well as the complex interaction between religious, social, political and economic dimensions in the relationship between German Jews and Protestants in the German Kaiserreich.

Kirchenbild Und Predigtziel written by Ruth Conrad and has been published by Mohr Siebeck this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Church categories.

English summary: For Protestantism, the significance of the sermon is derived from the legitimation and the function whose reasons are based on the church. The sermon is the church's fundamental manifestation of life. There is a causal connection between ecclesiology and homiletics. Ruth Conrad studies this connection between the understanding of the church and the concept of the sermon from the perspective of the history of the problem. Using examples of 19th century homiletic concepts, she reconstructs their practical-theological ecclesiological prerequisites and implications. She has selected the same 19th century concepts which shift the focus of the sermon to effective action as opposed to Schleiermacher's classification of the sermon as a representative action: those of Adam Muller, Franz Theremin, Rudolf Stier, August Vilmar, Heinrich Bassermann and Friedrich Niebergall.
