Trilingualism In Education In China Models And Challenges written by Anwei Feng and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-26 with Education categories.

This book examines language policies and practices in schools in regions of China populated by indigenous minority groups. It focuses on models of trilingual education, i.e. education in the home language, Putonghua (Mandarin Chinese, the national language), and English (the main foreign language). Special attention is given to the study of the vitality of the minority home language in each region and issues relating to and the effects of the teaching and learning of the minority home language on minority students’ acquisition of Mandarin Chinese and English and on their school performance in general. The book also examines the case of Cantonese in Guangdong, where the local Chinese ‘dialect’ is strong but distant from the mainstream language, Putonghua. It takes a new approach to researching sociolinguistic phenomena, and presents a new methodology that emerged from studies of bi/trilingualism in European societies and was then tailored to the trilingual context in China. The methodology encompasses policy analysis and community language profiles, as well as school-based fieldwork, and provides rich data that facilitate multilevel analysis of policy-in-context.

He reveals how colonial educators implemented these policies as well as African reactions to the educational system. Details concerning the kinds of subjects that were taught and characteristics of the student body are also included. Relevant for scholars of African history, this book provides new insights on the sociopolitical dynamics surrounding colonialism and the educational system that ultimately supported it.

Farewell To The God Of Plague written by Miriam Gross and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-19 with History categories.

Farewell to the God of Plague reassesses the celebrated Maoist health care model through the lens of MaoÕs famous campaign against snail fever. Using newly available archives, Miriam Gross documents how economic, political, and cultural realities led to grassroots resistance. Nonetheless, the campaign triumphed, but not because of its touted mass-prevention campaign. Instead, success came from its unacknowledged treatment arm, carried out jointly by banished urban doctors and rural educated youth. More broadly, the author reconsiders the relationship between science and political control during the ostensibly antiscientific Maoist era, discovering the important role of Ògrassroots scienceÓ in regime legitimation and Party control in rural areas.
