No sólo por la calidad de los dibujos, sino por el reflejo que suponen de la importancia, cuantitativa y cualitativa, de las obras arquitectónicas y remodelaciones urbanísticas que se llevaron a cabo en el siglo XVIII en ciudades como Madrid. Los años centrales del segundo tercio del siglo XVIII son, posiblemente, de los más apasionantes de la historia de la arquitectura y, también, del dibujo arquitectónico. Ventura Rodríguez (1717-1785) es, junto con Juan de Villanueva, el arquitecto más importante en la época, a caballo entre el barroco y el neoclasicismo ilustrado. Este dibujo, de enormes dimensiones, representa el proyecto de jardines y fuentes para el entorno del Palacio Real de Madrid, proyecto que constituyó una verdadera escuela o taller para la formación de artistas y arquitectos españoles. English: The architectural and ornament drawings from 16th--18th centuries is an important and valuable collection among the graphic materials held by the National Library of Spain. Not only because of the quality of the drawings, but also and very importantly for the reflection they provide of the importance, both quantitative and qualitative, of the architectural and urban renovations that took place in the eighteenth century in cities like Madrid. The middle years of the second third of the eighteenth century are possibly the most exciting in the history of architecture and in architectural drawing. Ventura Rodríguez (1717-1785) was, together with Juan de Villanueva, the most important architect of the time, somewhere between Baroque and Illustrated Neoclassicism. This drawing, of huge dimensions, depicts the project for the design of gardens and fountains and the surroundings of the Royal Palace of Madrid, a project that became a real school and valuable experience for Spanish artists and architects of the time.

In garden research, Spanish and Portuguese green spaces are scarcely visible. This is a striking contrast not only to their diversity and quality but also to the global network of both countries, especially during the Early Modern period. To counterbalance this, specialists from Spain, Portugal and Germany gathered in 2021 on an international and interdisciplinary conference. In the Portuguese Palace of Queluz they discussed the fundamental issues of garden art on the Iberian Peninsula. Their contributions are collected in this book. They are proof of a cross-border transcultural approach, which has freed itself from national stereotypes.
