Kolekcja artystyczna jest dla mnie tworem celowym, będącym wyrazem kreatywności człowieka. Ale nie może być to tylko zbiór dekorujący „bogate apartamenta”, tworzący jedynie bogaty w obrazy, dzieła sztuki i cenne przedmioty użytkowe wystrój rezydencji arystokratycznej czy burżuazyjnej, jaki cechował ją i wyróżniał zawsze — czy to na wsi, czy to w mieście — i jaki powstawał automatycznie, w zasadzie sam z siebie, z fortuny i kultury danego rodu (lub postaci), z pokolenia na pokolenie (lub jednorazowo).
