Fokus psikolinguistik adalah mengetahui pemerolehan bahasa pada anak-anak dan pemahaman proses berbahasa di otak manusia. Berfokus untuk membuat sebuah model atau merekonstruksi kinerja otak dalam aktivitas berbicara, mendengar, membaca, menulis dan berbahasa isyarat. Psikolinguistik menerangkan hakikat bahasa dan pemerolehannya. Hal yang ada dapat menerangkan hakikat struktur bahasa. Struktur bahasa yang diperoleh, waktu bertutur bahasa, dan waktu memahami kalimat-kalimat dalam bertutur bahasa. Jika ditinjau dari mempelajari psikolinguistik dapat membantu menyelesaikan permasalahaan kompleks manusia dalam pembelajaran berbahasa.
