Sejarah banyak agama yang terlembagakan menunjukkan suatu kecenderungan untuk mengembangkan dua sikap ekstrem: kecenderungan yang bersifat “mistik” dan individual di satu sisi, dan legalistik dan organisasional di sisi lain.
