It is widely recognised in Waldorf education that there should be a strong sculptural component in schools to balance with children's lessons in form drawing. The use of hands and sight to create physical forms, and the creativity that flows as a result, is an important experience for growing bodies and minds. This book presents myriad ideas for starting to work in clay, free from artistic pressure and full of fun and imagination.

More Precisely written by Eric Steinhart and has been published by Broadview Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-01-29 with Philosophy categories.

More Precisely provides a rigorous and engaging introduction to the mathematics necessary to do philosophy. It is impossible to fully understand much of the most important work in contemporary philosophy without a basic grasp of set theory, functions, probability, modality and infinity. Until now, this knowledge was difficult to acquire. Professors had to provide custom handouts to their classes, while students struggled through math texts searching for insight. More Precisely fills this key gap. Eric Steinhart provides lucid explanations of the basic mathematical concepts and sets out most commonly used notational conventions. Furthermore, he demonstrates how mathematics applies to many fundamental issues in branches of philosophy such as metaphysics, philosophy of language, epistemology, and ethics.

Number written by Greville G. Corbett and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-12-07 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Number is the most underestimated of the grammatical categories. It is deceptively simple yet the number system which philosophers, logicians and many linguists take as the norm - namely the distinction between singular and plural (as in cat versus cats) - is only one of a wide range of possibilities to be found in languages around the world. Some languages, for instance, make more distinctions than English, having three, four or even five different values. Adopting a wide-ranging perspective, Greville Corbett draws on examples from many languages to analyse the possible systems of number. He reveals that the means for signalling number are remarkably varied and are put to a surprising range of special additional uses. By surveying some of the riches of the world s linguistic resources this book makes a major contribution to the typology of categories and demonstrates that languages are much more varied than is generally recognised.

Pure Hardcore Icons written by Cruz Garcia and has been published by Artifice Incorporated this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Architecture categories.

In the kingdom of architecture the shape reigns supreme. Ever since the beginning of history, pure geometric form has been one of architecture's recurrent obsessions. A genealogy of buildings shaped as pyramids, spheres, and cubes can be traced back to ancient times, while contemporary projects, either as poured concrete or virtual bytes, often resemble stacked boxes and looping skyscrapers. Despite torrents of pure shapes flooding with evidence magazine pages and computer screens around the world, architecture lacks a written work to declare its intentions. Pure Hardcore Icons is the first manifesto on pure form in architecture. WAI Architecture Think Tank, directed by authors Nathalie Frankowski and Cruz Garcia, have created a vade mecum with provocative collages, essays and an interview that promise to bring form--a persistent taboo in the theoretical discourse--to the forefront of the architectural discussion. Through a mixture of perspicacity, conviction and humour, Pure Hardcore Icons aims to raise awareness about the dialectic of pure form and architecture, hoping that its potential and limitations could be fully grasped either in practice, academia, or as a cultural and intellectual exercise.

Read Him Again And Again written by Andrew Zack Lewis and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-13 with Religion categories.

In Read Him Again and Again, Andrew Zack Lewis explores the reception history of the book of Job and the hermeneutical presuppositions of its interpreters. He pays special attention to the interpretations of Soren Kierkegaard (in his "Upbuilding Discourse" on Job 1:21 and his philosophical novella Repetition), Wilhelm Vischer (in his essay "Hiob, ein Zeuge Jesu Christi"), and Karl Barth (in Church Dogmatics IV.3.1). In looking at Job in these works Lewis examines how each of the thinkers' contexts influence their writings and their understanding of Job. Read Him Again and Again begins with a discussion on the importance of reception history in biblical studies by walking through Mikhail Bakhtin's theories on great time and the chronotope. Great texts, Bakhtin argues, continue to live and grow even after their completion and canonization, expanding in meaning as more readers participate in their interpretations. This is certainly true of the book of Job and Read Him Again and Again shows not only how Kierkegaard, Vischer, and Barth read Job, but also how they inherit the Job of their predecessors in the Christian tradition, maintaining features of earlier allegorical interpretive strategies while remaining firmly established in the critical era.
