As the water rises, chaos threatens to destroy even the most devoted. Left to watch the sky fade to black, Jarrod’s consciousness tumbles to the Inbetween, reliving moments of his life imprinted on his soul. He must trust Damien when the illusion collapses, holding his breath in the wake of the Rahn’ka’s power, or risk being trapped forever. Waking to find Rae gone, Damien discovers Jarrod on the brink of death and works his power in unique ways to learn his lover’s fate. Betrayal jars him off course, putting his life in the hands of the thief he’d sworn to despise. Damien is forced to confront his fears, returning to Helgath with an unexpected ally at his side. After witnessing Jarrod’s death, Rae is captured by Sergeant Rynalds. Hope dwindles the farther she is taken from Damien, with no sign of rescue. Her sole hope reveals itself from the shadows, leaving behind paw prints to remind her she isn’t alone. Weaving bonds thicker than blood, each must overcome prejudice to garner the strength to survive. Pursuit of the Hawk is Part 2 of A Rebel’s Crucible and Book 5 in the Pantracia Chronicles.

When Robert B. Parker passed in early 2010, the world lost two great men: Parker himself, iconic American crime writer whose books have sold more than 6 million copies worldwide, and his best-known creation, Spenser. Parker's Spenser series not only influenced the work of countless of today's writers, but is also credited with reviving and forever changing the genre. In Pursuit of Spenser offers a look at Parker and to Spenser through the eyes of the writers he influenced. Editor Otto Penzler-- proprietor of one of the oldest and largest mystery specialist bookstores in the country, New York's The Mysterious Bookshop, and renowned mystery fiction editor whose credits include series editor for the Best American Crime Writing and Best American Mystery Stories, among many others (and about whom Parker himself once wrote, "Otto Penzler knows more about crime fiction than most people know about anything")-- collects some of today's bestselling mystery authors to discuss Parker, his characters, the series, and their impact on the world. From Hawk to Susan Silverman to Jesse Stone and Sunny Randall, from the series' Boston milieu to Parker's own take on his character, In Pursuit of Spenser pays tribute to Spenser, and Parker, with affection, humor, and a deep appreciation for what both have left behind.

An improved version of the Allison V-1710 engine gave rise to the Curtiss H-87, which began life in 1941 as the P-40D and featured a completely redesigned fuselage. The shorter and deeper nose of the new fighter gave it a decidedly snub-nosed appearance compared to the earlier P-40 models. Curtiss continued to tweak the H-87 for the next two years in the search for better performance, but the last major version, the P-40N, was only marginally faster than the first. In the process, Curtiss even tried an engine change to the Packard Merlin in the P-40F and L but to no avail. What the late model P-40s lacked in speed and service ceiling, they traded for maneuverability, durability and availability. Their niche became fighter-bomber operations, and they fought on fronts as varied as the arctic wastes of the Aleutian Islands and Iceland, the steaming jungles of the South Pacific and the barren deserts of North Africa. P-40s were a common sight in the skies over Burma and China, Sicily and Italy, and western Russia as well. By the time production ceased in 1944, Curtiss had produced nearly 14,000 P-40s.
