Tämä raamatunkäännös on käytössä paikoittain nykyäänkin. Kirkkohistorian professori Simo Heinisen mukaan Mikael Agricolan käännöstyön jälki näkyi vielä vuoden 1938 Raamatussa. Rovasti ja kirjailija Risto Santala kirjoittaa vuoden 1938 käännöksestä: "Edellisen Kirkkoraamattumme kielellinen ja merkitysopillinen taso ovat olleet niin kovaa luokkaa, että sitä voitaneen pitää yhtenä maailman parhaista käännöksistä." Evankelis-luterilaisessa kirkossa se hyväksyttiin virallisesti Suomen evankelis-luterilaisen kirkon raamatunkäännökseksi XI yleisessä kirkolliskokouksessa vuonna 1933 (Vanha testamentti) ja XII yleisessä kirkolliskokouksessa vuonna 1938 (Uusi testamentti). Käännös korvasi vuodelta 1776 peräisin olleen suomennoksen luterilaisessa kirkossa. Apokryfiset kirjat (v. 1938 käännös) eli apokryfit tai apokryfikirjat ovat juutalaisia tai alkukristillisiä kirjoituksia, jotka on jätetty kaanonin eli ohjeellisen tekstikokoelman ulkopuolelle. Juutalaisuudessa tekstikokoelma on Tanak ja kristinuskossa se on Raamattu. Apokryfisiä kirjoja on eri tekstikokoelmissa vaihtelevasti eri aikoina ja eri kirkkokunnissa. Apokryfinen tarkoittaa ”kätkettyä”. Nimi juontuu siitä, ettei apokryfisiä kirjoja yleensä luettu kristillisissä jumalanpalveluksissa, vaikka ne olivat saatavilla. Kristinuskon apokryfikirjoista puhuttaessa Vanhan ja Uuden testamentin apokryfikirjojen välillä on selvä ero. Vanhan testamentin apokryfeistä monet ovat mukana useissa Raamatun versioissa, myös vanhoissa suomalaisissa Raamatuissa, vaikka kaikki kirkkokunnat eivät tunnustakaan niiden arvoa. Uuden testamentin apokryfeillä ei puolestaan koskaan ole ollut tunnustettua asemaa kristinuskon piirissä, eivätkä ne ole koskaan kuuluneet Raamattuun.
