This book investigates a problem of robust resource allocation for distributed computing systems operating under QoS constraints. Often, such systems function in a physical environment replete with uncertainty causing the amount of processing required over time to fluctuate substantially. The first two chapters show how an effective resource allocation can be achieved in the shipboard distributed computing system and IBM cluster based imaging system. The general form of stochastic robustness metric is presented next, where the relationship between uncertainty in system and its impact on performance are linked stochastically. The utility of the established metric is exploited for the large class of distributed systems operating on periodically updated data sets. One of the major reasons for possible QoS violations in distributed systems is a loss of resources, frequently caused by abnormal operating conditions. The last chapter describes a solution method based on the concepts of the Derman- Lieberman- Ross theorem. The experimental results indicate a significant potential of this approach to generate robust resource allocations in unstable distributed systems.

QoS-Based Resource Allocation and Transceiver Optimization derives a comprehensive theoretical framework for SIR balancing, with and without noise. The theory considers the possible use of receive strategies (e.g. interference filtering or channel assignment), which can be included in the model in an abstract way. Power allocation and receiver design are mutually interdependent, thus joint optimization strategies are derived. QoS-Based Resource Allocation and Transceiver Optimization provides a better understanding of interference balancing and the characterization of the QoS feasible region. It also provides a generic algorithmic framework, which may serve as a basis for the development of new resource allocation algorithms. QoS-Based Resource Allocation and Transceiver Optimization is an invaluable resource for every engineer and researcher working on multiuser interference problems in wireless communications.

A Resource Allocation Model Driven Through Qoc For Distributed Systems written by André D´Amato and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Computers categories.

The trend of fog computing has generated challenges to establish resource allocation provided by this type of environment, since, in fog environments, the computing resource setting occurs on demand and at the edge of the network. Thus, ensuring both environment performance and providing user satisfaction imposes a severe technical problem. Since distributed systems are context-aware systems, the quality of context design can be applied to manage customer service, which aims to improve QoS, and provides system performance, for a given context. So, in this chapter, we propose a model to obtain runtime improvement for individual users and improve the global system performance using the quality of context in fog computing environment. The contribution of this proposal is to provide a resource allocation model, and metrics, based on QoC to deal with different distributed computing scenarios, in order to coordinate and enhance the environmental performance and user satisfaction. Experimental results show that our model improves system performance and users,Äô satisfaction. For measuring workloads, estimates of users,Äô satisfaction were performed. The proposed model obtained average results between 80 and 100% of users,Äô satisfaction acceptance, and a standard deviation adherent to a flat surface for workloads with a large number of tasks.

This Synthesis Lecture presents a discussion of Quality of Service (QoS) in wireless networks over unlicensed spectrum. The topic is presented from the point of view of protocols for wireless networks (e.g., 802.11) rather than the physical layer point of view usually discussed for cellular networks in the licensed wireless spectrum. A large number of mobile multimedia wireless applications are being deployed over WiFi (IEEE 802.11) and Bluetooth wireless networks and the number will increase in the future as more phones, tablets, and laptops are equipped with these unlicensed spectrum wireless interfaces. Achieving QoS objectives in wireless networks is challenging due to limited wireless resources, wireless nodes interference, wireless shared media, node mobility, and diverse topologies. The author presents the QoS problem as (1) an optimization problem with different constraints coming from the interference, mobility, and wireless resource constraints and (2) an algorithmic problem with fundamental algorithmic functions within wireless resource management and protocols.
