Currently there are two approaches to provide Quality of Service (QoS) in the next generation Internet: An early one is the Integrated Services (IntServ) with the goal of allowing end-to-end QoS to be provided to applications; the other one is the Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture providing QoS in the backbone. In this context, a DiffServ network may be viewed as a network element in the total end-to-end path. The objective of this paper is to investigate the possibility of providing end-to-end QoS when IntServ runs over DiffServ backbone in the next generation Internet. Our results show that the QoS requirements of IntServ applications can be successfully achieved when IntServ traffic is mapped to the DiffServ domain in next generation Internet.Bai, Haowei and Atiquzzaman, Mohammed and Ivancic, WilliamGlenn Research CenterINTERNETS; QUALITY CONTROL; NETWORKS; PROTOCOL (COMPUTERS)...

Future computer networks, including the Next Generation Internet (NGI), will have to support applications with a wide range of service requirements, such as real-time communication services. These applications are particularly demanding since they require performance guarantees expressed in terms of delay, delay jitter, throughput and loss rate bounds. In order to provide such quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees, the network must implement a Resource Reservation mechanism for reserving resources such as bandwidth for individual connections. Additionally, the network must have an Admission Control mechanism, for selectively rejecting some QoS-sensitive flow requests based on resource availability or administrative policies. The Server and Agent based Active network Management (SAAM) is a network management system designed to meet the requirements of NGI, In SAAM, emerging services models like Integrated Services (IntServ) and Differentiated Services (DiftServ), and the classical Best Effort service are concurrently sharing network resources. This thesis develops and demonstmtes in SAAM a novel resource management concept that addresses the difficulties posed by QoS networks. With the new resource reservation and admission control approaches, the sharing mechanism is dynamic and adapts to network load.

The advancement of key technologies in communication, such as optical and radio transmission, coding schemes, switching mechanisms etc. , has meant that communication networks are quickly growing to a larger-scale and higher speed than was ever anticipated. In terms of usage, Internet and real-time ap plications are expected to share a significant portion of the bandwidth in the next-generation of communication networks. Therefore, in order to achieve seamless and Quality of Service (QoS)-guaranteed transmission, regardless of source characteristics, extensive research into networking technologies is es sential. For the proper design, development and operation of emerging ideas on networking, further studies on the performance modeling and evaluation of networking are also encouraged. The International Conference on the Performance and QoS of Next Gen eration Networking (P&QNet2000) is being held from November 27 to 29, 2000, in Nagoya, Japan (Seto Campus of Nanzan University). This is the sixth international conference on the performance and other aspects of com munication networks. The conference is held once every three years in Japan (1985 in Tokyo; 1988, 1991, and 1994 in Kyoto; 1997 in Tsukuba). The confer ence is sponsored by the International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group (WG) 6. 3 Performance of Communication Systems, 6. 4 High Performance Networking, and 7. 3 Computer System Modelling. Fi nancial supports are given by Commemorative Association for the Japan World Exposition (1970), Support Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology Research, and Nanzan University.

Starting with the imminent roll-out of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and fourth-Generation networking technology, Next Generation Networks (NGN) are gradually becoming reality, with charging and Quality-of-Service (QoS) issues as two of the key drivers for the evolution toward the convergent all-IP network of the future. Therefore, the 6th International Workshop on Internet Charging and QoS Technology (ICQT 2009) was devoted to discussing the most recent approaches, models, and mechanisms in this highly interesting and important research area. The present volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series includes those papers presented at ICQT 2009—collocated this year with the IFIP Networking 2009 conference—taking place on May 15, 2009, in Aachen, Germany and hosted by the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH Aachen). For the commercial success of future QoS-enabled communication services, the emergence of viable business models, pricing schemes, and charging and accounting mechanisms is of paramount importance. Problems in this domain can only be addressed through a broad interdisciplinary approach linking together a variety of technical and economic perspectives, which are constantly driving a plethora of relevant research t- ics for application developers, business architects, network providers, service providers, and customers. Within the current trend toward a convergent NGN architecture, compe- tion modeling, pricing mechanisms, and the economics of inter-domain traffic are of specific importance and urgency. Thus, they determined—in the form of three technical sessions—the core of the ICQT 2009 program.

Wireless Systems And Mobility In Next Generation Internet written by Gabriele Kotsis and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-02-25 with Computers categories.

The Internet is subject to permanent modi?cations and to continuous restr- turing. This is primarily due to the tremendous rise in demand for bandwidth by the ever increasing number of users. When compared to the early years of the Internet the quality of the services o?ered had to be signi?cantly improved in di?erent respects (delay, network and service availability, jitter,. . . )inorder to satisfy the needs of many new applications. Within the last decade two new developments have contributed to many new opportunities, as well as to a need for intensive research and development: – the increased mobility of users together with the desire for ubiquitous hi- quality access to all o?ered services, at reasonable cost; – the use of wireless communication. Despite their relatively low capacity (when compared with ?xed backbone n- works) the use of radio links supports the ubiquitous availability of Internet services in a quasiperfect way. A considerable amount of research and development activities are currently - ing on worldwide in order to adapt Internet services to the particular needs of mobile users and of wireless communication links. These questions were - tensively discussed at the ?rst workshop organized by the EURO-NGI Network of Excellence (‘Next Generation Internet’), which has been funded by the - ropean Union since January 2004 under their IST programme.

A guide to understanding the emerging technologies and services of the new Internet The groundwork for the next generation Internet (NGI) is rapidly being laid, and now it's only a matter of time before a truly universal, fully interactive, multimedia Information Superhighway is realized. Many organizations are already connecting to powerful new Internet services. Enabling the seamless convergence of communications and computation, the next version of the Internet will be no mere upgrade; it will be based on a communications technology revolution. Written by Joel Mambretti and Andrew Schmidt, who have been intimately involved with the development of the next generation Internet, this book helps you to understand and prepare for the internetworking revolution. The authors explain why we need a next generation Internet and discuss the crucial design issues we face, from the application, technical, and network services perspectives. They also explore in detail the enabling technologies behind the next generation Internet. Writing for both corporate decision-makers and the technical community, they present: * Architecture * Services and service management * Core protocols and technologies * Standards, governance, and ongoing partnerships * Differentiated Services * GigaPOPs * National and international pilot programs-both active and planned * International next generation Internet projects * Universal accessibility * Advanced Internet applications
