Il m’assure de tout son appui sur toutes les initiatives que je prendrai à ce sujet et me laisse carte blanche : carte blanche de l’armée française la semaine dernière, carte blanche du FLN aujourd’hui, c’est plus que je ne pouvais en espérer après 3 mois de Kabylie.Étudiant en pharmacie, Albert Faucher est affecté au laboratoire de l’hôpital militaire de Tizi Ouzou de février à juillet 1962. Durant cette période, il entretient avec sa fiancée restée à Nantes une correspondance quotidienne. Les événements qui vont mener à l’indépendance de l’Algérie y sont racontés et commentés au jour le jour par ces « simples citoyens », ces amoureux qui se manquent tant, s’inquiètent, se rassurent, en donnant à leurs lettres un ton romanesque. Mais la spécificité du poste d’Albert fait aussi découvrir une « autre » guerre d’Algérie, où l’on donnait son sang pour les blessés, fussent-ils de l’autre bord...Fille des deux correspondants, Eléonore Faucher est scénariste et réalisatrice. Mon père a effectué son service militaire en 1962, en tant que pharmacien-biologiste à l’hôpital de Tizi-Ouzou, préfecture de grande Kabylie miraculeusement épargnée par les violences de l’époque. Et, pendant toute la durée de son séjour, ma mère et lui se sont écrit quotidiennement. Tandis que l’Algérie française vivait ses dernières semaines, leur correspondance évoque un laboratoire où appelés, Kabyles, Arabes, hommes et femmes de métropole ou d’Afrique du nord travaillaient encore ensemble dans un but qui les dépassait : la santé de tous. A Alger et à Oran, on versait le sang, ici on le donnait pour sauver des vies. C’était parfois avec réticence, mais souvent aussi avec fierté et conscience d'oeuvrer pour le pays futur. Partagée par d’autres membres du service hospitalier, une capacité d’analyse politique que j’imaginais pourtant difficilement possible dans un tel contexte permit de transcender les tensions, et finit par convaincre les occidentauxde se faire prélever en faveur des musulmans, ou l’inverse. Une telle expérience n’est certainement pas représentative de ce qu’ont pu vivre beaucoup d’autres jeunes gens au même moment et dans le même pays. Mais c’est précisément pour cela qu’elle méritait d’être mise en lumière : elle donne de l'espoir quant aux capacité de chaque individu à agir sur son entourage dans une situation aussi difficile que celle-là.
