In a world that runs with the need for speed, we feel time pushing us, sometimes even mastering us, as we rush from one thing to the next. Time is as familiar as the clock on the wall, yet it’s also a mystery. For poets, philosophers, songwriters, and scientists, time and eternity are frontiers as rich and compelling as the origins of the cosmos and the nature of God.One of the emerging writers and thinkers of our day, Ellen Vaughn, takes us on a stirring journey through this topic that touches us all. How can time-bound humans relate to a limitless God and enjoy his peace? Time Peace examines how we experience time in life’s fleeting moments. It explores timekeeping through history and in different cultures and introduces the unique Christian distinctive about it. It soars through the space-time continuum in an intriguing exploration of how science and philosophy illuminate biblical accounts. It helps readers take these truths and apply them to everyday life, freeing us to live at peace in time—and to leave a legacy that lasts for eternity.

Microcavities written by Alexey V. Kavokin and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-28 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Microcavities are semiconductor, metal, or dielectric structures providing optical confinement in one, two or three dimensions. At the end of the 20th century, microcavities have attracted attention due to the discovery of a strong exciton-light coupling regime allowing for the formation of superposition light-matter quasiparticles: exciton-polaritons. In the following century several remarkable effects have been discovered in microcavities, including the Bose-Einstein condensation of exciton-polaritons, polariton lasing, superfluidity, optical spin Hall and spin Meissner effects, amongst other discoveries. Currently, polariton devices exploiting the bosonic stimulation effects at room temperature are being developed by laboratories across the world. This book addresses the physics of microcavities: from classical to quantum optics, from a Boltzmann gas to a superfluid. It provides the theoretical background needed for understanding the complex phenomena in coupled light-matter systems, and it presents a broad overview of experimental progress in the physics of microcavities.

In the face of ever-declining biodiversity, zoos have a major role to play in species conservation. Written by professionals involved in in situ conservation and restoration projects internationally, this is a critical assessment of the contribution of zoos to species conservation through evidence amassed from a wide range of sources. The first part outlines the biodiversity context within which zoos should operate, introducing the origins and global spread of zoos and exploring animal collection composition. The second part focuses on the basic elements of keeping viable captive animal populations. It considers the consequences of captivity on animals, the genetics of captive populations and the performance of zoos in captive breeding. The final part examines ways in which zoos can make a significant difference to conservation now and in the future. Bridging the gap between pure science and applied conservation, this is an ideal resource for both conservation biologists and zoo professionals.

“If you think that science has nothing to do with God, and vice versa, read this book—and you just may change your mind.” —Professor Peter Sturrock, Dept. Physics, Stanford University In this engrossing new book, Dr. Bernard Haisch contends that there is a purpose and an underlying intelligence behind the Universe, one that is consistent with modern science, especially the Big Bang and evolution. It is based on recent discoveries that there are numerous coincidences and fine-tunings of the laws of nature that seem extraordinarily unlikely. A more rational concept of God is called for. As astrophysicist Sir James Jeans wrote, “the Universe begins to look more like a great thought than like a great machine.” Despite bestsellers by Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris that have denounced the evils of religion and proclaimed that science has shown that there is no God, The Purpose-Guided Universe shows how one can believe in God and science. “Committed atheists, traditional Christians, or hard-core Muslims will no doubt try to dismiss this book . . . provocative.” —Prof. Owen Gingerich, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, author, God’s Universe “Neither science nor theology can consider itself informed without taking into account Haisch’s views.” —Larry Dossey, MD, author, Healing Words “Merits being read and pondered by everyone seeks deeper meaning underlying science’s ever more astounding view of the world.” —Dr. Ervin Laszlo, author, Science and the Akashic Field “An enlightening exploration.” —Julia Ann Charpentier, ForeWord Reviews
