Hier kann der Geschichtsunterricht den oft geforderten Nachweis erbringen, ein nutzbringendes und praktische–bedeutsames Unterrichtsfach zu sein. Die Möglichkeiten, hier gewonnene Fertigkeiten auf anderen Gebieten anzuwenden, sind enorm. Ich hoffe, ich konnte in meiner Arbeit die Erarbeitung solcher Fertigkeiten ausreichend darstellen. Die Fähigkeit mit schriftlichen Quellen umzugehen, diese richtig auszuwerten und ihren Inhalt schnell und vollständig zu erfassen ist enorm wichtig im Unterricht. Ob im Deutschunterricht oder anderen Fächern wird diese Fähigkeit ständig benötigt und in der späteren schulischen Entwicklung vorausgesetzt. Im Hinblick auf die Zukunft und die immense Quellenvielfalt durch das Internet ist eine schnelle Auffassung des Inhalts unabdingbar, um den Überblick zu bestimmten Sachverhalten zu behalten. Ich spreche hier nicht nur über die profane Inhaltsangabe, denn im Verlauf meiner Arbeit habe ich deutlich gemacht, dass gezieltes Abarbeiten von Fragen an den Text, die Aussagen des Autors, seine Intention und Relevanz schnell erfasst werden können.

Damals lag historisches Lernen in der Grundschule ganz am Rande der Geschichtsdidaktik, war kaum entdeckt, und Quellenarbeit erschien in der Grundschule eigentlich ganz unmöglich. Nun nimmt allerdings auf der Sekundarstufe I die Quellenarbeit vor allem seit den sechziger Jahren zunehmend einen größeren Raum ein, was sich deutlich im höheren Quellenanteil in den Lehrbüchern dieser Stufe zeigt.1 Ist dieser Trend etwa in die Grundschule zu verlängern? Oder anders gefragt: Inwieweit ist Quellenarbeit in der Grundschule sinnvoll und erfolgsversprechend? Welchen Stellenwert kann sie auf der Primarstufe einnehmen? Die Lehrpläne und in ihrem Gefolge die Lehrbücher berücksichtigen Quellenarbeit bisher nur wenig. Zwar wird manchmal von „Zeugnissen der Vergangenheit“ gesprochen, gelegentlich taucht auch der Begriff „Quelle“ oder „Dokument“ auf3, es scheint aber meist nur an den sporadischen Einsatz der Quelle gedacht zu sein.
