Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) "Jumalik komöödia" on keskaegse euroopa kirjanduse tuntuim teos. "Põrgu" (Inferno, 1314) on kolmeosalise suurteose esimene ning kõige hinnatum osa. Selle tõlkimisega eesti keelde tegi 1910 algust Villem Grünthal-Ridala, järje võttis 1939 üle Johannes Semper, kuid kumbki ei viinud tööd lõpuni. Uue tõlkija leidis Dante "Põrgu" kuuekümnendate aastate algul. See oli Harald Rajamets, kelle aastatepikkune töö nüüd raamatuna ilmub. Kommentaarid kirjutas Ülar Ploom.

Kansankielestä (De vulgari eloquentia) on maanpaossa vaeltaneen poliittisen pakolaisen pieni mutta painava kirja. Vuonna 1302 Dante Alighieri sai kuolemantuomion ja hänet karkotettiin Firenzestä. Italian kielellinen ja poliittinen murros heijastui Danten tuotantoon tätä seuranneina pakolaisuuden vuosina. Teos Kansankielestä pyrki kohottamaan italian kielen muiden romaanisten kielten ja latinan rinnalle, vieläpä niiden ohi runouden kielenä. Muotoutuvan Euroopan kohtalot, kielten vaiheet ja Danten ajatus "maailmasta isänmaana" ovat aiheina yhä ajankohtaisia. Teos jäi keskeneräiseksi, mutta se oli pioneerityö kielten synnystä, olemuksesta, leviämisestä ja käytöstä Euroopassa. Teos ilmestyy nyt ensi kertaa suomeksi Päivi Mehtosen ja Jaana Vaahteran suomentamana. Kaksikielinen editio tarjoaa lukijalle latinankielisen alkutekstin lisäksi laajan johdannon ja selitysosan.

Her study sheds new light on the role of women in relation to men, family, and social organization in medieval Spain.
