Giovanni Spadolini written by Valentino Baldacci and has been published by Biblioteca Della Nuova Antolog this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Business & Economics categories.

During his long career as historian, journalist, politician and statesman, Giovanni Spadolini paid constant attention to the Jewish question. For this reason he looked with growing interest to the State of Israel not only as protagonist of the events of the Middle East but also as the expression of an original economic and social formula, as well as of ethical values, by directly connecting the birth of Zionism to Italian Risorgimento, through the teachings of Mazzini and Cattaneo. The book retraces the evolution of Spadolini's beliefs, through the different positions he covered: director of «Resto del Carlino» and «Corriere della Sera», Member of Parliament, Minister of Cultural Heritage and Defense, Head of the Government, President of the Senate, as well as secretary of the PRI (Italian Republican Party). It places the evolution of Spadolini's work and beliefs in the context of the changes that occurred in Middle East from 1947 to 1994, highlighting the birth and the evolution of pan-Arabism and the emergence of a new leadership, the one that ruled Middle Eastern countries for decades until recent "revolutions".

What are the implications of mass tourism and globalization for the field of archaeology? How does this change popular understandings of the past? Increasingly archaeological sites worldwide are being commodified for a growing tourist trade. At best, expansion of programs can aid in the protection and historic preservation of sites and strenghten community identities. However, unchecked commercial development may undermine the integrity of these same sites, replacing local interests with corporate ones, economically and culturally. Within this volume, original case studies from well-known sites in Cambodia, Israel, England, Mexico, and North America are presented to address the complex interaction between archaeology and nationalist, political, and commercial policies. This book should appeal to archaeologists, applied anthropologists, tourism and economic development specialists, and historic preservationists alike, as well others with an interest in the preservation of archaeological sites as historic locales.

This book examines how left-wing political and cultural movements in Western Europe have considered Jews in the last two hundred years. The chapters seek to answer the following question: has there been a specific way in which the Left has considered Jewish minorities? The subject has taken various shapes in the different geographical contexts, influenced by national specificities. In tandem, this volume demonstrates the extent to which left-wing movements share common trends drawn from a collective repertoire of representations and meanings. Highlighting the different aspects of the subject matter, the chapters in this book are divided in three parts, each dedicated to a major theme: the contribution of the theorists of Socialism to the Jewish Question; Antisemitism and its representations in left-wing culture; and the perception of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Taken together, these three themes allow for a multidisciplinary analysis of the relationship between the Left and Jews from the second half of the nineteenth century to recent times.

This book deals with the experience and action of Jewish women in the new Jewish settlement in Palestine (the Yishuv) during the period of Zionist immigration to Palestine, from the last two decades of the nineteenth century until 1948. The wide range of topics concern the experience of East European immigrant women as well as that of traditional Yemenite women, the creative and radical action of the socialist pioneers of the labor movement as well as the liberal feminism of the middle-class women. Though based on scholarly research, this book brings forth women's voices through their private and public writing.
