Marketization and privatization in compulsory education have spread around the globe. School choice is seen by many to be the panacea to develop the quality of schools and improve school systems worldwide. Additionally in many countries several types of private schools expand and change the school landscapes. The articles of the anthology analyse and discuss these changes in several countries and ask to what extent and in which ways school choice and the growth of private school play a role for education policies and education systems. Which political and civil society actors are active in formulating and promoting school choice and private schooling? And to what extent does the expansion of private schools and school choice address questions of educational inequality and social segregation.

The chapters on chapters on the properties, design and processing of fiber-reinforced concrete.Fiber-reinforced concrete as an extension of concrete offers considerable advantages for building practice, which, based on the material properties, allow a very long service life. Fiber-reinforced concrete is particularly suitable for an aggressive environment such as salt exposure, since corrosion can be completely avoided.Particular attention is also paid to the shrinkage cracks that occur in the concrete and how they can be and how these can be avoided when using fibers. Fiber-reinforced concrete, with its material properties, acts over the entire cross section cross-section in the non-cracked state and thus also offers protection against internal protection against internal destruction. It is a building material that achieves its full static effect in the non-cracked state similar to most other building materials such as wood, steel, glass, etc. This book is a translation of the original German 3rd edition Faserbeton by Bernhard Wietek, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2020. An unprecedented number of people is currently on the move seeking refuge in Europe. Large parts of European societies respond with anxiety and mistrust to the influx of people. Nationalist, anti-migrant parties from Slovakia over Germany to the UK have gained increasing support among the electorate and challenge the political mainstream. Europe is struggling how to respond. While the search for solutions is ongoing one pattern seems to be emerging: Fortress Europe is in the making. Unfortunately, few of these discussions and measures consider the structural root causes and dynamics of migration, the motives of migrants or societal challenges more thoroughly. This book seeks to address this deficit. Taking migration and asylum policies as a starting point, it analyses the various dimensions underpinning migration. In doing so, it identifies why receiving countries are in many ways part of the problem. To eschew an overtly Euro-centric perspective and stimulate a debate between science and politics, it contains contributions by academics and practitioners alike from both shores of the Mediterranean.
