Perceptions of Iran dissects the construction of Iranian identity, to reveal how nationalism has been continually re-formulated and how Iran's self-perception has been moulded by its literary past. Here, Ali M. Ansari gathers together a varied and wide-ranging account of the long history of Iranian encounters with the Western world, whether via the observations of Herodotus, or the knowledge – via the Old Testament – of Cyrus liberating the Jews from Babylon, or into the modern era when nineteenth and twentieth century interactions reflect the unequal power relationship between Iran and the West. Perceptions of Iran also explores the salient elements in the country's narrative which helped to form Iran's identity, such as Ferdowsi's creation of the Shahnameh – the national epic – the exquisite architecture of Safavid Isfahan or the unfulfilled promise of the Constitutional Movement in the early twentieth century. It offers analysis of the Qajar Shahs' use of a mythical and dynastic past, as they drew on the narratives of Jamshid's glory and Khusraw's splendour in order to legitimise their rule. At the same time, it examines the ways in which foreign travellers and diplomats understood and conceived of the royal courts of Safavid Persia. As it covers 2,500 years of political and intellectual history, Perceptions of Iran ties together the diverse threads of Iranian experience that have underpinned the country's social and cultural movements, spanning Mirza Agha Khan Kermani's writing on Persian history and liberal nationalism, through to the strident anti- Western discourses of Seyyed Jamal al-Afghani, Jalal Al-e Ahmad and Ayatollah Khomeini. This is a true story, happened in France in the XVIII century. It talks about the hunt, lasted for a good four years, against a mysterious anthropophagous beast, which plunged into terror the poor people of the Gevaudan and of the Auvergne, today Lozere. This is the story of the men in charge of killing what was simply nicknamed the Beast, of the strategies which were carried out, of the beatings that were made even with dozens of thousands of men and many packs of dogs, of the long posts in the wild mountains of that area with such a terrible climate, so described: "Nine months of winter, three months of hell." In spite of the soldiers and the famous hunters sent by the King of France, the monstrous beast continued committing slaughters most of all of women and children, attacking hundreds of times and making at least 131 victims, many of which were devoured. Only after years of terror the Beast was finally killed and they were able to ascertain which species it belonged to.

«Nella valle le origini della giustizia», mette in evidenza il particolare stato di smarrimento vissuto dagli Italiani in un determinato periodo storico per le tristi vicissitudini legate alle leggi razziali che originarono deportazioni e assurdi abomini nei confronti della popolazione ebraica vittima delle scellerate decisioni di pulizia etnica. L’excursus temporale fa confluire quella che è stata la vita del detective, dalle origini sino a quando, in là con gli anni, racconta le vicende dei suoi avi ai nipoti raccolti intorno a lui. Espone le sue origini radicate nel paese pugliese di Barletta, sconosciuto ai nipoti, e le difficoltà che la famiglia Belluno /Blender dovette patire per inserirsi in terra d’Irlanda. Grazie al carattere sano e forte della famiglia, al nobile e irreprensibile comportamento dei suoi avi, i Blender si guadagnarono stima, rispetto e persino amore. La vicenda si snoda nella cittadina pugliese. Protagonista principale è il nonno del detective, medico condotto, ma anche medico legale con pieni poteri. Sarà impegnato a smascherare un nobile usurpatore che, in ragione del suo rango guadagnato con inganno, con ogni mezzo vessa i confinanti dei suoi terreni. Solo l’arguzia e l’abilità del dr. Antonio Belluno, da sempre assertore della verità e difensore dei sani principi, riusciranno a ristabilire la giustizia riportando legalità in quell territorio martoriato. In sintesi, le finalità che si propone l’autore le ritroviamo in opere illustri, basti citare "Il conte di Montecristo" di Alexandre Dumas, “La vendetta del visconte dimezzato" di Italo Calvino ma, soprattutto, "Il giardino dei Finzi-Contini" ove Giorgio Bassani segue la storia di una famiglia ebrea durante il periodo della Seconda Guerra Mondiale in Italia. Anche in questo romanzo la Giustizia è un tema importante poiché la famiglia Finzi-Contini, come la famiglia Belluno/Blender, cerca di proteggersi dalle ingiustizie del regime fascista.
