The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is investigating polarization features of antennas to determine if they can be used for radar identification. This report presents the results of a test under this program whose main objective was to use existing polarization measuring hardware to examine the mainlobe and sidelobe antenna polarization characteristics of different navigation radars and to evaluate how this information can be used for radar identification. A theoretical model was generated to plot the polarization characteristics of slotted waveguide arrays, the type of arrays used in navigation radars. A comparison between theory and real-time measurements was made with encouraging results. This report shows that radars belonging to the same 'class' with the same antenna polarization, can be distinguishable when comparing their mainlobe and sidelobe antenna polarization characteristics. Spatial Polarization Characteristics Of Radar Antenna written by Huanyao Dai and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-20 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book presents novel research ideas and offers insights into radar system design, artificial intelligence and signal processing applications. Further, it proposes a new concept of antenna spatial polarization characteristics (SPC), suggesting that the antenna polarization is a function of the spatial direction and providing new ideas for radar signal processing (RSP) and anti-jamming. It also discusses the design of an advanced signal-processing algorithm, and proposes new polarimetric and anti-jamming methods using antenna inherent properties. The book helps readers discover the potential of radar information processing and improve its anti-interference and target identification ability. It is of interest to university researchers, radar engineers and graduate students in computer science and electronics who wish to learn the core principles, methods, algorithms, and applications of RSP.

Develops methods for treating polarization problems in antennas, radar, radio astronomy, and lasers. Develops appropriate descriptors for elliptically polarized waves and antennas and gives polarization characteristics for several useful antennas. An extensive presentation of polarization changes by reflection is given, including scattering matrices and reflections from an arbitrarily oriented plane. Partial polarization is discussed, as well as techniques for measuring antenna polarization.

This book highlights the synthesis of polarization selection system in the background of passive noise formed by reflections from space-distributed targets. This synthesis is fulfilled as close as possible to its ideal configuration in terms of maximal signal-to-noise ratio for the matched load of radar station antenna system. It presents a new approach to radar system resolution enhancement based on the development of mathematical model for radiometric receivers with mono-pulse antenna systems, as well as creation of a new algorithm that allows increasing angular resolution during the object’s search and tracking due to special signal processing.

This book highlights the application of active array antennas in high-resolution microwave imaging radar systems. It introduces the basic principles, analytical methods, and performance parameters of active array antennas to achieve low profile, high efficiency, and lightweight. The book systematically elaborates the architecture, analysis, and engineering practice to achieve wideband, multi-band, multi-polarization, and common aperture in active array antennas. It explores hotspot technologies of digital array antennas, microwave photonic array antennas, and active packaging antennas. By presenting over 300 illustrations and diagrams, including schematic diagrams, block diagrams, relation diagrams, and breakdown drawings, the book enables a thorough understanding of the antenna array microsystem as the advanced phase of active array antennas and the direction of future R&D. The book is a good reference source for researchers and engineers interested in the engineering and implementation of microwave imaging radar systems and antenna technology.

The presence of randomly oriented, nonspherical particles in the atmosphere results in the appearance of a depolarized component of the radar signal, that is, the echo signal. When there is sufficient radar sensitivity, this effect can be used to discriminate between the liquid phase (spherical droplets) and the crystalline phase in clouds. To realize certain theoretically observed possibilities, an apparatus was set up on the radar laboratory, which permitted the transmission of both linearly and circularly or elliptically polarized waves. Theoretical analysis and experimental measurements made with this equipment give reason to expect that polarization characteristics can be used to obtain valuable information on the structure and variation of the parameters of meteorological objects.

Step Frequency Ground Penetrating Radar Characterization And Federal Evaluation Tests written by Michael Leon Scott and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Electromagnetic interference categories.

A step frequency ground penetrating radar (SF GPR) system was characterized and evaluated to determine whether it can be operated safely in a proposed configuration that may include frequency notching in specific frequency bands. This emission testing was conducted with possible notching configurations turned on and then turned off to allow for both scenarios to be evaluated. Testing work focused on emissions characterization measurements suitable for computer analysis of potential interference with relevant systems. After initial testing was completed, needs for follow-up testing were defined. This follow-up testing was completed, and results are included in this report.

Radar Target Imaging written by Wolfgang-Martin Boerner and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.

Radar imaging, as understood here, involves target recognition, i.e. the determination of the detailed properties of an object (size, shape, structure and composition, and also location and speed) from radar echoes returned by it. Advanced approaches are required for this, and several of recent interest are discussed in this book. They include mathematical inverse-scattering techniques based on the solution of integral equations; use of the singularity expansion method (SEM), related to the resonance scattering theory (RST), in which the pattern of resonance-frequency location in the complex frequency plane can be employed to characterize a given radar target; and the use of polarization information. Finally, the measurement of radar cross-sections is described.
