In reading this book, you will discover that you are much more powerful than your addiction, much more powerful than the obsessive thoughts, compulsive feelings, and physical cravings that create so much pain and suffering in your life and the lives of those you love. You will learn that there is no future in addiction, just a regrettable past that keeps repeating itself over and over again. You will cut through the recovery myths that result in an endless cycle of relapses. It can inspire and motivate you to reach deep inside yourself and awaken the extraordinary powers that nature has bestowed on you as it guides you through a process that transforms cravings for alcohol or drugs into cravings for courage, freedom, honesty, integrity, humility, and peace. According to HBO's documentary, Rehab, of the 2 million people who seek treatment each year in the United States, 1,840,000 will relapse within twelve months; some the first day. That's a 92 percent failure rate. This is a national disgrace. THE ANTIDOTE FOR ADDICTION With more than thirty-five years of continuous sobriety, Kelly presents not a cure but a powerful antidote for addiction, something that counteracts or relieves a harmful or unwanted condition.

Life as you know it is over. Cancer has taken charge, and you have less than a month to live. You have a massive tumor so large that surgery is not an option. Chemotherapy and radiation is your only hope to obliterate the tumor and save your life. Two painful, dark months later you are so grateful to be alive, but now your entire body is annihilated. You are burned and blistered inside and out from the radiation. You’re dehydrated and the pain is more than you can bare. You are on heavy opiates and your life has become a nightmare. You have no real guidance on how to rebuild your damaged body, either physically or emotionally. You are deeply depressed and wonder if life is even worth living. You are filled with fear that you will never heal and are desperate for a glimmer of hope. Edna Ness feels your pain. Having worked in the healing arts for over 15 years, she was suddenly faced with her biggest challenge yet. Her husband was diagnosed with a monster tumor in the base of his tongue that literally began choking him overnight. With only a week to live, he would endure radical radiation and chemotherapy that thankfully saved his life but left him with extreme collateral damage. With gratitude in her heart and a warrior-like spirit, she tells their story and how she developed a strategy to help him recover quickly and more completely. In Radical Recovery, Edna reveals her approach to helping others restore their health with hyperbaric oxygen, light therapy, and other natural remedies.

Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder are some of the most deadly "mental illnesses;" however, research into the nature of these conditions and possible treatments remains virtually unfunded. As a result, there is no standard model of treatment for eating disorders and no definitive information on the number of people in the U.S. who suffer from one or more of these conditions. Radical Recovery openly addresses the national epidemic of eating disorders and offers practical suggestions for how to effectively promote awareness and change in a more responsible and compassionate way. Issues addressed include success rates for eating disorders treatment, current research, mortality and eating disorders, the presence of eating disorders in both sexes and all ages, overcoming social stigma, and eating disorders activism.

The shock of a divorce can be devastating for women who thought, after decades of marriage, that their relationships were secure, their futures safe. Suzy Brown was one of those women. When her marriage of over twenty-five years ended because of her husband's affair with a younger woman, she found herself overwhelmed by the numbers of women she knew in her same situation. She started a small support group that has proven invaluable, and now she's sharing with readers what she and her friends learned through their experiences of tragedy, healing, and joy.

"This thesis operates under the assumption that addicts continue to relapse because most recovery programs focus on addiction as the primary disorder rather than viewing addiction as one component of a much larger process. Other mental disorders and the impact of unresolved childhood trauma are often minimized and may have a larger impact on relapse than considered. The present thesis views recovery as a developmental process, involving multiple stages, instead of perceiving recovery as just maintaining sobriety and engaging in spiritual practices. The purpose of this thesis is to present a treatment plan proposal, called Radical Recovery, which perceives recovery as a process. Radical Recovery addresses treating addiction, co-morbid disorders, and unresolved trauma through partaking in group and individual therapy and exercises designed to assist addicts [to] reconnect with the self, others, and the Higher-Self"--Leaf [iii].

Radical Recovery Peer Support is a program that utilizes Peer Support to help individuals achieve wellness and personal growth. The author of the program uses first-person inspirational passages to draw parallels between concepts and recovery. The Program can be done either in-person or online. For the group programs, we have three options. The first is a general wellness and personal growth group which is simply called Radical Recovery Peer Support. There is also a group with a focus on higher education called "RRPS-University", and finally there is a version of RRPS for Criminal-reentry called "RRPS-Liberation".Over the course of five sessions each group covers important concepts like the Linear Growth Model and Parallel Recovery Concepts. It Also Focuses on the nine Recovery Fundamentals which include principles like Honesty, Trust, Acceptance, Hope, Personal Responsibility, Self-Advocacy, and others. How each group presents the concepts and fundamentals is unique. The Linear Growth Model recognizes that while growth and recovery are not always linear, putting in effort does often lead to progress over time. Growth may appear uneven, with periods of progress and periods of struggle. However, making consistent efforts through programs like Radical Recovery Peer Support can help us move closer to our hope of achieving stability and wellness.RRPS is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is such because the description of the Concepts and Fundamentals, as well as the person first descriptions of the recovery journey address beliefs, thoughts, and feelings commonly experienced in a specific but large audience. Each program addresses thoughts, beliefs, and feelings that held the author back and provides a solution of improving our thoughts, beliefs, and control over our feelings by getting more aligned with positive expressions of Recovery Concepts and Fundamentals.Examples of how this is done includes changing thoughts for people with criminal history's such as "Only my failures matter," to "I have hope even though its tougher with a record." Changing thoughts of "All probation officers are out to get me" to many of them want to help." Reduces Dichotomous thinking by encouraging the view that its not all black or white or one or the other, but that there are levels of growth on a continuum and a new start can be made at any time. The programs also incorporate themes of Rational Emotive Therapy in the different events emphasized in each program. From more general distressing circumstances in the original RRPS, to more specific events such as educational neglect in RRPS -University, and the stigma of having a criminal record in RRPS -Liberation, to our beliefs about these issues, and the consequences for results of those beliefs.
