This book is designed to assist practitioners in managing patients who present with difficult cases of the most common hematological malignancies. The scenarios covered are those that are likely to be encountered in patients with the various forms of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and leukemia. In each of the three sections devoted to these malignancies, multiple cases are presented. The case discussions follow a standard format. A clinical description is followed by a pathological description documenting information relevant to diagnosis and by details of staging work-up, including images. The treatment options are then discussed at length, highlighting relevant literature for each option. Finally, the treatment delivered is identified and images of the planning technique/modality used are provided. This book will be an invaluable aid to decision making for radiation oncologists and will also be of interest for hematologists.

Advances In Radiation Oncology written by Jeffrey Y.C. Wong and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-20 with Medical categories.

This book concisely reviews important advances in radiation oncology, providing practicing radiation oncologists with a fundamental understanding of each topic and an appreciation of its significance for the future of radiation oncology. It explores in detail the impact of newer imaging modalities, such as multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) using fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) and other novel agents, which deliver improved visualization of the physiologic and phenotypic features of a given cancer, helping oncologists to provide more targeted radiotherapy and assess the response. Due consideration is also given to how advanced technologies for radiation therapy delivery have created new treatment options for patients with localized and metastatic disease, highlighting the increasingly important role of image-guided radiotherapy in treating systemic and oligometastatic disease. Further topics include the potential value of radiotherapy in enhancing immunotherapy thanks to the broader immune-stimulatory effects, how cancer stem cells and the tumor microenvironment influence response, and the application of mathematical and systems biology methods to radiotherapy.

Radiotherapy as practiced at the renowned Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute is brought up to date in this new, second edition of The Radiotherapy of Malignant Disease. The contributions are all written by current or former members of the hospital staff. The opening chapters provide the necessary background information: basic physics and radiobiology, principles of chemotherapy, and mould room practice. The main part of the book represents the very essence of the Manchester school of thought. It is designed to show in detail how to treat, by X-rays and radium, malignant tumors in various anatomical sites. The book thus gives practical guidance on clinical techniques necessary in all disciplines involved in the management of malignant disease. From the reviews of the first edition: " ...It should be in the library of every radiotherapy department, and in the hands of every trainee..." #British Medical Journal#1 "...This book should be an important and interesting reference book on the shelves of any medical library or radiotherapist's office." #American Journal of Roentgenology#2 "...There can...be few established radiotherapists, described by the editors as the epitome of the oncologist, who did not read the earlier versions of the Manchester textbook and may still use it for reference. This latest edition is costly but it should continue to be read by all trainees aspiring to the DMRT and FRCR, wherever they may be in training and whatever the philosophy of their teachers." #Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine#3

This book describes the various contributions of positron emission tomography (PET) to the management of Hodgkin lymphoma and considers key issues in its use. A full explanation of the value of PET in disease staging and restaging is followed by discussion of its role in guiding individualized, response-adapted therapy in both early and advanced disease based on assessment of treatment sensitivity. Further chapters explore in detail the current application of PET for determination of tumor metabolic volume and planning of involved field radiotherapy. The book concludes by discussing PET scan reporting in clinical practice and the rules that have now been formally set following a number of international workshops designed to develop standard reporting criteria based on expert agreement. The authors are leading authorities who adopt an interdisciplinary approach in covering the most important aspects of the use of PET in Hodgkin lymphoma in a readily understandable way. PET Scan in Hodgkin Lymphoma will be of value to oncologists, hematologists, medical physicists, radiotherapists, and nuclear medicine specialists.

This book examines in detail the current treatment options for first-line, relapsed, and refractory Hodgkin lymphoma and the management appropriate in special clinical circumstances, including in the elderly, pregnant women, and those with lymphocyte-predominant disease. Careful attention is devoted to the emerging individually tailored treatment strategies that are especially appealing given their potential to reduce early and late treatment side effects in this generally young patient population. In addition, clear guidance is provided on the management of Hodgkin survivors. Other topics addressed include epidemiology, pathogenesis, the role of the microenvironment, initial clinical evaluation, imaging diagnosis, use of staging systems, and prognostic factors. The second edition of Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Comprehensive Overview has been revised and updated by the key opinion leaders to reflect recent progress in the field. It will be of great value to hematologists, oncologists, and all others with an interest in Hodgkin lymphoma.

Cancers Of The Head And Neck written by Charlotte Jacobs and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1987 with Medical categories.

Cancers of the head and neck are among the most morbid of cancers. Convention al surgery and/or radiation therapy have a high cure rate for patients with early stage disease. However, despite optimal treatment with surgery and radiotherapy, patients with nodal spread or extensive local disease have a low cure rate. Even if a cancer is cured, a patient is often left with long-term debilities from the treatment and/or cancer. The major causes for decreased survival in patients with advanced head and neck cancer include local recurrence, distant metastases, and second primaries. All of these need to be addressed if one is to improve upon the curability of advanced disease. There are several new techniques, surgical and radiotherapeutic, designed to improve local control. Brachytherapy, or interstitial implantation, delivers a high dose of localized radiation with minimal normal tissue injury. This technique as discussed by Goffinet, may be even more efficacious when combined with hyperthermia. New, creative methods of radiation therapy delivery, such as the use of multiple fractions per day, as discussed by Parsons and Million, are also contributing to long-term local control. Laser therapy, discussed by Ossoff and Nemeroff, provides another tool for treatment of local disease.
