Dakwah dan Filantropi: Jalan Menuju Kesejahteraan Umat merupakan refleksi pemikiran yang penulisannya telah dipersiapkan sejak lama. Terdapat beberapa alasan mengapa karya ini perlu diterbitkan. Menjawab permasalahan di atas, buku ini menawarkan salah satu model dakwah terbaik saat ini, yaitu melalui berbagai pendekatan, seperti pendekatan filantropis. Selama ini dakwah terfokus hanya pada aktivitas spiritual, mengajak umat untuk memperkukuh keimanan dan keislaman saja. Bukan atau tidak memberikan solusi atas persoalan yang dihadapi umat Islam Indonesia, seperti kemiskinan, ketidakadilan, dan lain-lain. Dakwah harus mampu membangun paradigma baru bahwa dakwah tidak hanya mengajak umat untuk berbuat baik, tetapi juga memberi contoh dengan bertindak secara konkret agar dakwah berhasil melakukan transformasi sosial dan keimanan umat. Penulis menganjurkan bahwa dakwah bi al-hal—selain bi al-lisan dan bi al-qalam—merupakan solusi terbaik dalam mengatasi problem kemiskinan, kesejahteraan, keadilan, dan sebagainya yang masih membebani umat Islam di Indonesia. Karenanya, buku ini amat dianjurkan menjadi rujukan para aktivis sosial dan para da’i dalam melakukan aktivitas sosialnya di masyarakat agar mampu mendorong perubahan masyarakat menjadi lebih baik.
