Governing Corporate Social Responsibility In The Apparel Industry After Rana Plaza written by Anil Hira and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-22 with Business & Economics categories.

This edited collection critically explores the efforts of the apparel industry to improve safety conditions and suggests governance reforms that will resolve lingering issues. The volume examines two consortia: the Alliance and the Accord, which set up cooperative auditing systems of supplying factories and penalties for non-compliance, and include funding to help factories comply and for workers if factories are idled during repairs, though the editors raise doubts about the long-lasting value of such efforts. In the wake of the 2013 Rana Plaza disaster, leading researchers across labor relations and industry studies tackle and debate such issues, giving their perspective of how multinationals operating in developing countries should regulate labor standards in order to resolve and improve the substandard working conditions under which much of our clothing is made.

Race Characters written by Swati Rana and has been published by UNC Press Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-06 with Literary Criticism categories.

A vexed figure inhabits U.S. literature and culture: the visibly racialized immigrant who disavows minority identity and embraces the American dream. Such figures are potent and controversial, for they promise to expiate racial violence and perpetuate an exceptionalist ideal of America. Swati Rana grapples with these figures, building on studies of literary character and racial form. Rana offers a new way to view characterization through racialization that creates a fuller social reading of race. Situated in a nascent period of ethnic identification from 1900 to 1960, this book focuses on immigrant writers who do not fit neatly into a resistance-based model of ethnic literature. Writings by Paule Marshall, Ameen Rihani, Dalip Singh Saund, Jose Garcia Villa, and Jose Antonio Villarreal symbolize different aspects of the American dream, from individualism to imperialism, assimilation to upward mobility. The dynamics of characterization are also those of contestation, Rana argues. Analyzing the interrelation of persona and personhood, Race Characters presents an original method of comparison, revealing how the protagonist of the American dream is socially constrained and structurally driven.

Hidden Women The Ruling Women Of The Rana Dynasty written by Greta Rana and has been published by Roli Books Private Limited this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-18 with Social Science categories.

Hidden Women are women about whom we know nothing, or very little, so they are shades or shadows in the life of Jung Bahadur Rana who founded the Rana dynasty that ruled Nepal for 104 years. Nothing is written about the women in his life except that against his wishes they committed sati when he was cremated. Strong and independent women, they had influence on him, enjoyed a prominent place in his life, and ironically the one he admired most tried to kill him. It is a novel look at his story, worn out by many Nepali writers, as it is the first time being told through the eyes of the women in his life. Thoroughly researched, Greta Rana builds together a feasible picture of how women lived and thought, hoped and died in a restrictive feudal society.

It was to be a small experiment in a tree-hidden pool on the outskirts of a rural village. Nothing too grand, easily monitored, easily controlled. They introduced the Genesis Strain into the water... to see what it did to the pond life. The locals didn't worry at first, not with a few dead animals, and not really when the cow was killed. But when a young girl was eaten, it changed everything. The Genesis Strain, or the Gene Bug as they called it back in the lab, altered their genetic development and changed the species. When it became clear it could contaminate other species and alter those, it became a national threat. It became a race against time to prevent the Genesis Strain from breaching the county borders, because if it did, there would be no stopping it.
