'Dripping with atmosphere and edged with danger, Threads That Bind weaves together a gorgeous dark tapestry of mystery, fated romance and modern myth. You won't be able to put this one down' Alexandra Bracken, bestselling author of Lore In the city of Alante, the descendants of the Greek gods live alongside mortals. Io is the youngest of three sisters, descended from the Fates. She can see threads: shimmering silver lines connecting every person. When a new relationship is formed, a new thread appears. When a person's life-thread is cut, it's their time to die. Io uses her gifts as a private investigator, trying to make ends meet in a world which treats other-born people like her with suspicion and prejudice. Then Io is witness to a murder - but this is no ordinary murder. Io can see that the killer's life-thread is severed. They should be long dead. More complicated still, there is another witness: Edei, a member of the violent Rossi mob who rule Alante. And what Io can see immediately, although Edei cannot, is that there is a bright silver fate-thread connecting them. This boy is her destiny. Io and Edei are thrown together to solve the case, and as Io grapples with the dark secrets lurking beneath Alante's surface, she must decide whether to embrace her fate and give in to the feelings growing between herself and Edei - or whether to cut the thread, and set him free... Filled with mystery, violent betrayal and powerful, simmering romance, and inspired by Greek mythology, Kika Hatzopoulou's electrifying, genre-defying debut is perfect for fans of Alexandra Bracken's Lore, Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows and Chloe Gong's These Violent Delights.

In the twilight world of Veyra, destiny is woven on the Loom of Fate, its iridescent threads binding every life to the tapestry of existence. But harmony is a shattered memory. Warring factions, clinging to their dimming threads, threaten to unravel the Loom entirely, plunging Veyra into eternal darkness. Seventeen-year-old Kaelith, an apprentice weaver in the neutral Sanctuary, feels the tremor of each broken thread as a pang in their own chest. During a ceremonial weaving, a surge of energy reveals a startling truth: Kaelith’s thread holds the power to mend the Loom. Transformed from apprentice to beacon of hope, Kaelith embarks on a perilous quest to re-stitch Veyra's fractured tapestry. Joined by Reysha, a pacifist warrior haunted by past battles, and Pharem, a disgraced diplomat seeking redemption, Kaelith navigates a landscape scarred by conflict. They face the icy resolve of Amanda Simmons in the North and the fiery ambition of Victor Perez in the South, leaders entrenched in narratives of division. But the greatest threat lies hidden within the Whispering Woods, where ethereal Threadlings feed on frayed emotions, amplifying Veyra’s discord. Guided by the whispers within the threads themselves and the ostracized historian Elara Vance, Kaelith uncovers a forgotten truth: the Loom’s fracturing isn’t the result of conflict, but a desperate defense against a forgotten faction, the Weavers of Discord, who believe true harmony lies in controlled chaos. Their insidious whispers, woven into the very fabric of Veyra’s culture, have subtly fueled generations of conflict. Now, Kaelith must not only mend the Loom but unravel the Weavers’ insidious legacy. In the crumbling Sanctuary, Kaelith faces a pivotal choice: force reconciliation, potentially unleashing catastrophe, or weave a new narrative, trusting in the power of shared stories. Can Kaelith's tapestry of empathy and understanding mend not only the threads of the Loom, but the fractured hearts of Veyra's people?

Large-Scale Simulation: Models, Algorithms, and Applications gives you firsthand insight on the latest advances in large-scale simulation techniques. Most of the research results are drawn from the authors’ papers in top-tier, peer-reviewed, scientific conference proceedings and journals. The first part of the book presents the fundamentals of large-scale simulation, including high-level architecture and runtime infrastructure. The second part covers middleware and software architecture for large-scale simulations, such as decoupled federate architecture, fault tolerant mechanisms, grid-enabled simulation, and federation communities. In the third part, the authors explore mechanisms—such as simulation cloning methods and algorithms—that support quick evaluation of alternative scenarios. The final part describes how distributed computing technologies and many-core architecture are used to study social phenomena. Reflecting the latest research in the field, this book guides you in using and further researching advanced models and algorithms for large-scale distributed simulation. These simulation tools will help you gain insight into large-scale systems across many disciplines.

For almost a millennium, a modest wooden ship lay underwater off the coast of Serçe Limani, Turkey, filled with evidence of trade and objects of daily life. The ship, now excavated by the Institute of Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M University, trafficked in both the Byzantine and Islamic worlds of its time. Known as "the Glass Wreck," it bore cargo that included three metric tons of glass cullet, including broken Islamic vessels and eighty pieces of intact glassware, along with various artifacts of ship life. This second volume of the discovery’s investigation focuses on the excavation, conservation, and study of the glass found in the wreckage. The extensive catalog will be a valuable tool for archaeologists and scholars of Islamic glass and Islamic trade. Further, the systematic methodology and presentation of such a large undertaking will serve as a model for future study across many disciplines.
