Welche Schritte kann, darf oder sollte man gehen? Welche Hilfen und Anlaufstellen gibt es? Was brauchen betroffene Kinder und Jugendliche? Diese und weitere Fragen werden im Ratgeber beantwortet. Im Ratgeber werden die verschiedenen Formen der Kindesmisshandlung und Vernachlässigung beschrieben. Es wird erläutert, wie es dazu kommen kann, dass Kinder und Jugendliche misshandelt oder vernachlässigt werden. Weiterhin werden mögliche Folgen und Hinweise auf Misshandlung und Vernachlässigung sowie die rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen des Kinderschutzes dargestellt. Handlungsempfehlungen, die sich aus diesen rechtlichen Regelungen ergeben, werden formuliert und das nicht so einfach zu durchschauende deutsche Hilfesystem mit seinen verschiedenen Beteiligten, wie etwa Psychotherapeutinnen und Psychotherapeuten, Beratungsstellen, medizinische Einrichtungen, Jugendamt bis hin zu den Strafverfolgungsbehörden vorgestellt. Das Ziel ist, Erwachsene zu ermutigen, aufmerksam zu sein und gut auf die Kinder und Jugendlichen in ihrem Umfeld zu achten, ihnen aus der gefährdenden Situation herauszuhelfen und sie gegebenenfalls im Anschluss auf dem Weg der Bewältigung angemessen zu unterstützen.
