"Ce numéro est tout entier consacré au philosophe français Raymond Ruyer (1902-1987).Il s'ouvre sur une lettre de Ruyer à Piaget du 16 octobre 1965. Elle fait suite à la sévère critique que Piaget avait faite de ses Éléments de psycho-biologie où, tout en reconnaissant dans l'ouvrage un certain effort d'information, celui-ci opposait une fin de non-recevoir aux explications des faits par une métaphysique du potentiel et condamnait le recours, jugé purement verbal, à des notions telles que « finalité », « potentiel », « psychisme ». On y lira les arguments que Ruyer oppose à la thèse selon laquelle la philosophie n'apporte aucune connaissance véritable, ce privilège étant réservé à la science expérimentale.Dans « Ruyer et les leçons de l'instinct », André Conrad s'attache au problème de la différence anthropologique. Pour l'éthologie compréhensive (Fabre, von Uexküll, Buytendijk), l'instinct est une embryologie continuée selon une action thématique, et non selon le mécanisme des « déroulements autonomes » (Lorenz, Tinbergen) ou des « comportements régulés ». Si l'homme est séparé de l'animal par l'originalité de la fonction symbolique (Cassirer, Langer), l'action thématique ne sépare pas l'embryologie sociale (culture et politique) du mystère de la vie, ce qui fait à la fois comprendre la différence et la communauté des vivants.Dans « Être ou avoir son corps : à propos de trois genres de multiplicités chez Ruyer », Benjamin Berger s'attache à éclaircir le statut du corps dans la philosophie de Raymond Ruyer. Ce dernier se situe au carrefour de deux axes cruciaux, celui de la manifestation et celui des multiplicités, et constitue le lieu de connexion entre phénoménologie et l'ontologie, de même qu'entre une philosophie de l'incarnation et une philosophie du corps vivant.Dans « Raymond Ruyer et la cybernétique », Alix Veilhan s'intéresse à la lecture ruyerienne des théories cybernétiques, notamment à la façon dont le dialogue avec les thèses formulées par Norbert Wiener permet à Ruyer de soutenir l'hypothèse d'une origine « trans-spatiale » de l'information et de démontrer l'inadéquation du mécanisme pour élaborer une pensée du vivant. L'auteur cherche à montrer que cette philosophie, pensée pour échapper aux difficultés de la monadologie leibnizienne, n'y parvient pas réellement.Dans « Le rapport de Ruyer à Whitehead », Fabrice Colonna cherche à établir quelle est la présence exacte de Whitehead dans l'œuvre de Ruyer.
