An edited book (2nd Volume) is a compilation of academic chapters produced by several authors to share their perspectives and experiences on a certain subject. The chapters of the edited book, which are written by many writers, go through a peer-reviewing procedure to confirm their quality. The volume editor next manages the uniformity of style and material flow. The chapters in the edited book should be the author's own unpublished original works. If they are carefully planned and edited well, edited volumes can be excellent books. A successful edited book is more than just a longer version of a journal issue with a similar theme; it is also a complete intellectual undertaking that should be treated as such from the outset.

The origins of retail are old as trade itself. Barter was the oldest form of trade. For centuries, most merchandise was sold in market place or by peddlers. Medieval markets were dependent on local sources for supplies of perishable food because Journey was far too slow to allow for long distance transportation. However, customer did travel considerable distance for specialty items. The peddler, who provided people with the basic goods and necessities that they could not be self sufficient in, followed one of the earliest forms of retail trade. Even in prehistoric time, the peddler traveled long distances to bring products to locations which were in short supply. “They could be termed as early entrepreneurs who saw the opportunity in serving the needs of the consumers at a profit” Later retailers opened small shops, stocking them with such produce. As towns and cities grew, these retail stores began stocking a mix of convenience merchandise, enabling the formation of high-street bazaars that become the hub retail activity in every city. In the great sweep of social and retail history, the ‘modern’ shopping experience can be said to have commenced with the appearance of the department store in the middle of the 19th century.

Metatheory for the 21st Century is one of the many exciting results of over four years of in-depth engagement between two communities of scholar-practitioners: critical realism and integral theory. Building on its origins at a symposium in Luxembourg in 2010, this book examines the points of connection and divergence between critical realism and integral theory, arguably two of the most comprehensive and sophisticated contemporary metatheories. The Luxembourg symposium and the four more that followed explored the possibilities for their cross-pollination, culminating in five positions on their potential for integration, and began the process of fashioning a whole new evolutionary trajectory for both integral theory and critical realism. The contributors to this book bring together critical realism and integral theory in order to explore the potential of this collaboration for the advancement of both. Highlighting the ways in which these metatheories can transform scholarship and address the most pressing global issues of the 21st century, this book will be of interest to students, scholars and practitioners in the areas of metatheory, philosophy, social theory, critical realism, integral theory and current affairs more generally.

A university campus is a place with special resonance: conjuring images of cloistered quadrangles and wood-panelled libraries, often echoing centuries of scholarly tradition. And yet it is also a place of cutting-edge science, interactive learning, youth, vibrancy, and energy. It is this dual nature which makes the physical environment of a university so dynamic as well as a highly challenging landscape to design and manage successfully. Today, the scale of the pressures and the rate of change facing higher education institutions are greater than ever.? Squeezed public spending, rising tuition fees and the growing education ambitions of developing nations are set against a backdrop of rapid technological progress and changing pedagogies. What are the repercussions for the physical realities of university planning and architecture? And how are university campuses adapting to contend with these pressures? University Trends introduces the most significant, widespread and thought-provoking trends in campus design today. Part 1 identifies current trends such as starchitecture, large-scale campus extensions, adaptive re-use, and international branch campuses. Part 2 profiles each trend via highly-illustrated, global case studies of well-publicised as well as lesser-known projects. The essential guide to current and future trends in campus design.

This book brings together scientists and practitioners from five continents to present their experience in undertaking activities that contribute to our understanding and informed management of mountain areas. In particular, they address the challenges of working in interdisciplinary teams and of effectively involving stakeholders. The result is a powerful book that integrates research from different disciplines in the natural and social sciences, and in some cases indigenous knowledge, to address the question of how knowledge is gained about mountain areas and how can it be integrated and used in effective management. A comprehensive introduction covers the challenges in mountain area research and management, and the need for integrated approaches. This is followed by chapters that look at key areas of mountain research and management over the past 25 years, covering inter-and trans-disciplinary research, subsistence cultures and sustainable development, innovations in watershed management and biodiversity conservation. Subsequent chapters cover key areas of research and management on five continents with a focus on comparison of common challenges and solutions across regions. The concluding chapter brings these experiences together. Published with Parks Canada
