Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2019 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Systeme allgemein und im Vergleich, Note: 1,0, Universität Vechta; früher Hochschule Vechta, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die vorliegende Arbeit setzt sich mit der Frage auseinander, inwieweit die FPÖ als Prototyp des Rechtspopulismus in Europa gelten kann und welche politischen und rhetorischen Charakteristika des Rechtspopulismus sie aufweist. Um dieser Frage nachzugehen, wird zunächst der Begriff des Rechtspopulismus näher bestimmt und seine Erscheinungsformen in der Europäischen Union seit 2015 untersucht. Entstehungsgründe und die Motive und Einstellungen der Wählerschaft werden hierbei außen vor gelassen, da sie im Rahmen einer Hausarbeit nicht ausreichend beschrieben werden können und der Fokus auf der Repräsentation und den Strukturen der populistischen Gruppen selbst beziehungsweise der FPÖ liegt. Anschließend werden einige ausgewählte rechtspopulistische Parteien in Europa exemplarisch knapp behandelt, um später die Rolle der FPÖ einordnen zu können. Im dritten Kapitel erfolgt die Analyse der Programmatik und Rhetorik, derer sich die Partei bedient. Dabei werden politische Themen und Einstellungen der FPÖ auf rechtspopulistische Aspekte untersucht. Die Haltung zur Immigration steht dabei im Mittelpunkt, da diese wichtigen Hinweise auf die politischen Einstellungen und den Politikstil gibt. Schließlich wird im vierten Kapitel ein Fazit gezogen, ob bzw. inwieweit die Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs als Prototyp des westeuropäischen Rechtspopulismus gelten kann.

For some years, we have observed a broad public discussion over the shrinking civic space. While the focus has generally been on countries with authoritarian governance systems, it has more recently become apparent that the issue is neither restricted to these countries nor indeed to countries with weak or non-existing democracies. It has been demonstrated that the space in which civil society actors and individual citizens may contribute to public affairs is undergoing fundamental changes in Europe. Drawing on repeated in-depth interviews with incarcerated young men in the United States and Germany, Michaela Soyer argues that the apparent relative lenience of the German criminal justice system is actually founded on the violent enforcement of cultural homogeneity at the hands of the German welfare state. Demonstrating how both societies have constructed a racialized underclass of outsiders over time, this book emphasizes that criminal justice reformers in the United States need to move beyond European models in order to build a truly just, diverse society.

This book examines VOX, the first major and electorally successful populist radical right-wing party to emerge in Spain since the death of General Franco, and the restoration of parliamentary democracy in the late 1970s. In December 2018, VOX, a new party on the populist radical right, entered the Andalusian regional parliament, and played the role of kingmaker in the ensuing government formation discussions. Since then, under the leadership of Santiago Abascal, VOX has earned political representation in numerous local, regional and national elections. The party attracted more than 3.6 million votes in the November 2019 general election, making VOX the third largest party in the Spanish Congress. In two years, the party has become a key political challenger and an important player in Spanish politics. This book explains the origins of the party, its ideology and relationship with democracy, its appeal with voters, and its similarities with (and differences from) other populist radical right parties in Europe. It draws upon a rich source of domestic as well as cross-national survey data and a systematic analysis of party manifestos which provide a detailed account of the rise of VOX and what its emergence means for Spanish politics. On October 3, 1990 the future of both Europe and Germany became powerfully and inexorably intertwined across a politically broadened continent powering transformative social, political and economic interactions. The thirty year mark after the then reigning chancellor Helmut Kohl promised 'flourishing landscapes' in the former GDR is more than just a new anniversary from which mandatory reflections must follow. Arguably, it represents a temporal boundary between the adjustments and reactions conditioned and captivated by a sense of something new and uncertain, and that point moving forward from which unification’s legacy inescapably tethers Germany’s future to normal politics shaped by the issues of the moment, and not politics gripped by the debates of unification itself. That legacy is defined by an accumulation over thirty years of adjustments, mutations, counter-adjustments and strategic reactions which have now delivered through the many ripples of change a Germany managing the course-trajectory which unification has relentlessly plotted. The foreseeable future will certainly see that legacy of unification tenaciously continue to project yet shrouded within the background of Germany’s routine politics.
