Reading Max Weber's Sociology of Law serves both as an introduction and as a distillation of more than thirty years of reading and reflection on Weber's scholarship. It provides a solid and comprehensive introduction to Weber and sets out his main concepts. Drawing on recent research in the history of law, this book also presents and critiques the process by which the law was rationalized and which Weber divided into four ideal-typical stages of development. Hubert Treiber provides commentary in a manner informed both historically and sociologically. The book explores Weber's concepts in relation to the creation of laws between secular the religious powers. The book goes on to examine the codifications that were undertaken by Prussian absolutism and Napoleon in the Code Civil. It further covers Weber's thoughts on antiformal legal tendencies, issues that are still prevalent in law today. This text is no mere reiteration of Weber's concepts. The volume contextualizes Weber's work in the light of current research, setting out to amend misinterpretations and misunderstandings that have prevailed from Weber's original texts. Treiber's introduction is much more than a simple guide through a complicated text. It is an important work in its own right and critical for any student of the sociology of law.

The sociology of law has made impressive progress over the last decades. The present volume brings together scholars from Austria, Britain, Germany and Scandinavia to discuss major developments. The book starts with analyses of the sociology of law advanced by the most outstanding theorists in the field, Max Weber and Niklas Luhmann. Their legacy is assessed by Hubert Treiber, Frank Welz and Inger-Johanne Sand. Next, Hakan Hyden emphases the gain sociology of law could have from a stronger focus on norms. Armin Holand and Ole Hammerslev ask about the effects courts have. Klaus F. Rohl provides an international overview on "alternatives of law", one of the main topics of socio-legal studies since the 1960s. The final article by Stefan Machura in this volume addresses the media's impact on the public's perception of the legal system.

Max Weber S Interpretive Sociology Of Law written by Michel Coutu and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-04-09 with Law categories.

This book presents a clear and precise account of the structure and content of Max Weber's sociology of law: situating its methodological and epistemological specificity in relation to other approaches to the sociology of law; as well as offering a critical evaluation of Weber's usefulness for contemporary socio-legal research. The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the methodological foundations of Weber's sociology of law. The second analyses the central theme of this sociology, the rationalisation of law, from the perspective of its internal logical coherence, its empirical validity, and finally its legitimacy. The third part questions the present-day relevance of the Weberian sociology of law for socio-legal research, notably with regard to legal pluralism. Max Weber, it is demonstrated, is not merely a 'founding father' of the sociology of law; rather, his methodology, concepts, and empirical analyses remain highly useful to the further development of work in this area.

Eugen Ehrlich S Sociology Of Law written by Knut Papendorf and has been published by LIT Verlag Münster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Law categories.

The work of Eugen Ehrlich (1862-1922) is directly relevant for an understanding of law in society and of the role of sociology of law. Today, it is possible to see behind the smokescreen of historical debates and to assess Ehrlich's key ideas in the light of today's problems. The coexistence of state and local law still challenges lawyers and decision-makers. Ehrlich suggests sociology of law as an instrument to address social and legal problems that supplements standard legal methodology. The articles in this book place Eugen Ehrlich in the context of his times, outline the international reception of Ã?Â?his work, and show the relevance of his thoughts for contemporary issues. Luhmann And Law written by Christopher Thornhill and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-01-27 with Law categories.

Niklas Luhmann wrote a number of works which have decisively shaped the recent development of legal science as a theoretical discipline. Some basic elements of his theory have been widely appropriated by other legal theorists, such that it is difficult to imagine contemporary reflection in legal theory, and above all legal sociology, without Luhmann. This collection brings together the most important canonical and cutting-edge papers on Luhmann’s legal thought. It is introduced in a comprehensive editorial piece by the editor which locates the articles in context and explores the issues and topics at hand.
