Views Of The Cordilleras And Monuments Of The Indigenous Peoples Of The Americas written by Alexander von Humboldt and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-25 with Science categories.

In 1799, Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland set out to determine whether the Orinoco River connected with the Amazon. But what started as a trip to investigate a relatively minor geographical controversy became the basis of a five-year exploration throughout South America, Mexico, and Cuba. The discoveries amassed by Humboldt and Bonpland were staggering, and much of today’s knowledge of tropical zoology, botany, geography, and geology can be traced back to Humboldt’s numerous records of these expeditions. One of these accounts, Views of the Cordilleras and Monuments of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas, firmly established Alexander von Humboldt as the founder of Mesoamerican studies. In Views of the Cordilleras—first published in French between 1810 and 1813—Humboldt weaves together magnificently engraved drawings and detailed texts to achieve multifaceted views of cultures and landscapes across the Americas. In doing so, he offers an alternative perspective on the New World, combating presumptions of its belatedness and inferiority by arguing that the “old” and the “new” world are of the same geological age. This critical edition of Views of the Cordilleras—the second volume in the Alexander von Humboldt in English series—contains a new, unabridged English translation of Humboldt’s French text, as well as annotations, a bibliography, and all sixty-nine plates from the original edition, many of them in color.

"This issue is about uplifting Two-Spirit voices and their creative expression to spark dialogue on why we need to decolonize the way we value gender and sexuality within our communities. Two-Spirited people are the most marginalized in our communities due to the ongoing colonialism and assimilation that has resulted in gender and sexual-based violence, systemic oppression and the current suicide crisis on-reserve. Red Rising Collective members acknowledge the beauty, value and resistance of our two-spirited relatives, as they are impacted in many ways by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. As we embark on our collective journey of decolonization, we must honour Two-Spirited people for all the gifts Creator has given them." --

This is the most comprehensive, all-embracing, single source of data on metallic deposits and their worldwide distribution. With over 1,750 pages it contains: 594 figures illustrating ore styles and their setting; 113 tables providing concise but highly quantitative data on several thousand locality examples; 4 indexes (general, locality, genetic, metals) enabling rapid and thorough searches; and more than 2,000 references. This vast body of information on metallic ore deposits is arranged by environments in which they presently form or lithologic associations in which they occur. The organization of the book follows the approach employed in regional mineral-potential evaluation and exploration. Long-lasting, objectively observable host units and empirical indicators of ore presence are stressed. The coverage is balanced and truly worldwide, based on original literature consulted in over 30 languages and on the author's personal familiarity with more than 2,000 ore deposits located in 85 countries. The book is a must for practising exploration geologists, petrologists, and economic geologists, as well as for specialists in various other branches of geology (e.g. glacial geologists, carbonate sedimentologists, volcanologists, and geochemists). Teachers and students will find this most complete data sourcebook an ideal supplement to the theory and basic data found in textbooks.

"Welcome to the fourth issue of Red Rising Magazine. We are dedicating this issue to the late Larry Morrissette, a man who has been an inspiration for so much of what we do. Larry knew what the hood life in Winnipeg was like, and the work that he did tried to change it. He co- founded the original Bear Clan, a committed group that fosters safety and helps to ignite the spirit of our community. Larry was also instrumental in creating Children of the Earth High School – one of the first Indigenous schools on Turtle Island. When he was honoured for his work on making COTE a reality this past year, he spoke of seeing young, educated Indigenous people being able to carry the torch for the type of work he built his life around. Larry was co-author of Indians Wear Red, a book that explains how North End Winnipeg wasn’t simply the result of individuals making bad choices, but rather a byproduct of colonialism. In the last chapter of the book, the authors write about what needs to be done to curb the Indigenous community’s “street gang problem.” In that chapter, the authors say that they need people who have lived those experiences to reclaim their identity and their culture, and to bring forth new ideas to change their communities. We hope to honour Larry through the platform we are offering with Red Rising." --
